New PXG prototype driver

I would think all these drivers in the MGS most wanted test would be at a disadvantage against PXGs shorter shaft length because it’s easier to hit the middle with a shorter shaft. Middle strikes equals more ball speed.

Disagree. At their swing speed dont even think the shaft will make any difference. Whoever tested these could only carry 220y, SS was only about 95mph, im surprised if there is any difference inbtn these heads at that speed.

Measured Lofts and Lengths: Callaway Sub Zero 9 degree / 45.5

Cobra F9 - 9 degree / 45.25

Ping G410 Plus - 9 degree / 45.375

PXG 0811X Gen 2 - 8.3 degree / 45

Thanks for sharing. Any reason you didn't go with the flash based on this?

Also, would a higher loft yield better results for you?

I know a lot of tour issue heads from taylormade have quite some variances in loft and face angle, cannot imagine off the shelf heads will be spot on at 9deg..

One of many weaknesses in their testing is they use the shafts the manufacturers provide them with the drivers. As we know, not all shafts are equal for everyone. For a company that harps on getting fit, why this is so is mind boggling.

I think that is th average across all testers. The break down by swing speed probably won’t be out til later in the year when they do their best “club” for swing speed X

I heard they did have a lot of slower swing speed testers this year compared to previous years

For guys that ordered a driver with the pro orange 60 have you had the MR 70 label on the tip and the tungsten label on your shaft? My brother ordered one and it doesn’t have either but PXG is claiming it is still a pro. It is a newer shaft labeled Mitsubishi chemical. Thanks!

Mine has neither but definitely has a pro sticker on the butt. The W and MR70 stamp are just newer graphics from what I recall.

Nothing is safe in my bag!

I know some shafts before they were labeled Mitsubishi Chemical did not have the graphics but I thought the newer ones with Mitsubishi Chemical all had the logos.

Who knows honestly. Mine says Mitsubishi Chemical as well and definitely says Pro on the butt sticker. This orange shaft has been like a riddle since the V1. It's a complete pain in the a** to figure out any of the versions.

Nothing is safe in my bag!

I've had 2 Pro Orange shafts. One I purchased off the BST and it had all the logos. The one I purchased from an OEM included with the driver did not have logos. I was worried as well. Pulled the grip and called Mitsubishi and they confirmed it was a Pro. My best guess is many of the OEMs have old stock from the original release that do not have the logos.

I have now tested the Titleist (it was a TS3 for me with the Tensei blue) and the F9 (HZRDUS Smoke) both really good but I can’t get over how much better the X was in terms of spin and feel - all hit on different days so no statistical comparison is practical but colour me interested, this is a quality offering, big fan!!

I ordered my PXG in January, it is March, and I still don't have it. All my patience finally paid off big time...

...as I have been waiting for my PXG, I had to continue playing with my old Epic SZ. Unfortunately, I caved in the face on it (cracked) on the range the other day. I will be getting a new Epic Flash SZ from Callaway. Great Customer Service!!!

So, when my driver(s) come in I will be able to put the PXG up against the Epic Flash SZ and see which one works best for.

Thank you for the delay PXG!

Which part do you disagree with? PXG had an advantage in the test or you get more ball speed on center strikes?

I was one of the first ones to miss out on the 0811X. I ordered end of January. The shaft is the PO 60 TX, but that is not the hold up. There are no 0811X heads available at all (except for 12*) till mid March.

Man, I am sorry but your logic makes no sense. Just because a driver is 0.75" shorter doesn't mean that a panel of testers will make much better contact. One thing that is almost certain, is that a 0.75" shorter driver will have lower clubhead speed by ~1-2mph. So even if the contact is a little more consistent, it will probably not be enough to offset the lower clubhead speed.

The reason OEM's have been building longer and longer shafted drivers is because they want launch monitors to show max distance, as that is what 90% of buyers care about. The reason PXG went shorter is because they believe it will yield better dispersion (at the cost of some minimal distance loss).

If a shorter driver was more accurate AND LONGER, then all OEM's would build shorter drivers.

I was initially told my X was in production, but then back ordered, pulled my order got an m5. I still will re-visit the 0811x and the new LST when they are available. I think the PXG is a great deal and they have great shaft options.

Hahaha. The EXACT same thing happened to me. Not the crack but the ridiculous wait pxg has for their driver and i picked up the flash SZ. I ordered the shaft the same length as the SZ so I can compare apples to apples.

It's not my fight but to say that a longer shaft is always going to have just as good if not better contact than a shorter shaft for every golfer just isn't accurate. And there's not just anecdotal evidence to back that up. You can search YouTube for several videos or just listen to the posters on Golf Wrx. Many golfers are fit better into a shorter shaft drivers. Certainly there is a point of demising returns. But that's what it comes down to, what's a better fit, and that's not always a longer driver shaft. Here is the most obvious fitting I could find on YouTube that represents that logic:

I said the opposite. A longer shaft will not "always going to have just as good if not better contact" as you stated. Typically a shorter shaft will have better contact. That said, a longer shaft will typically result in longer drives on average. Hence all OEM's (including Titleist for the first time this year at 45.5") are going longer and longer on shafts.

There are of course cases where a shorter shaft yields higher clubhead speed, but not typical. Shorter shafts are typically more accurate though, but at the sacrifice of distance.

+ FedEx shipping. That’s my one gripe with these guys. You buy something small like weights or a hat and they still force you into FedEx ground for $15 that’s slow as hell (at least to get to the east coast from AZ).

Well, you could just choose the $1000 shipping option. Lol. It’s pretty ridiculous. They will even charge double shipping cost for additional items and it’ll come in the same box.
