Titleist 680 versus the 681

Hi,

 

looking for some information on these, which has the deepest muscleback, the 680 or the

681, also what's the difference in grind ??

 

Looking for a set of low launching high center of gravity blades.

I once asked a similar question of Titleist in the UK. This is what I received:

 

Thank you for your email regarding Titleist Clubs.

The Titleist 681's that you currently have are most similar to the 680. The

681 has a slightly more curved muscle position to be slightly higher in the

toe.

The Forged 680's have a slightly higher muscle position compared to the

690.MB. This is to promote a slightly lower ball flight favoured by many of

the touring Professionals. For example, Davis Love III prefers the 680

while Ernie Els swears by the 690.MB.

The 680's have a little bit of offset that the 681's do not have. Also, the the 680s have a slightly rounded leading edge and some blunting on the sole grind not seen on the 681's. Titleist's description of the muscleback shape is accurate.

Also, the 681 has a slighlty more squared toe than the 680's...

the 681s are also heavier and are a softer forging.

I recently picked up mint set of Titleist 680 3-PW set for a steal $450. These babies look brand new. I owned a set of 681's and the 680's are lighter swingweight. The trajectory is the same for my 680's when compared to 690.mb's. I'm a die hard Titleist fan, as you can see by my signature, and the 680's are a great iron. I've never seen the 680's in a retail golf store, so I think you have to special order them.

680 has more offset and a leading edge grind, also different steel (1025 v 1030) and a different forging house.
