Callaway Hex Tour Soft (Costco)

Just curious if anyone has tried these? I'm wondering if it is a 3 piece version of the Supersoft.

$59.99 for 4 dozen is a great price.

I wonder if it is something closer to ERC Soft. Multi-material cover, 3 layers, etc.

Wasn't this the predecessor to the Chrome Soft? I will go dig through my box of old stuff and see if I have an old box of these so we can compare the specs.

That would be great!

I don't think so. I think before Chrome Soft was SR1, SR2 and SR3. Right before that was Hex Black Tour and Hex Chrome+.

The ball mentioned here isn't even a urethane ball.

I love the Costco Callaways! I haven't tried these yet but I'm gonna pick up a pack and see how they do. Generally these balls are 3 piece Surlyn with a compression of 65ish and they perform great for me!

Yeah I think I'm going to order some. For $15/dozen it wouldn't hurt my feelings too much if I ended up not liking them.

Maybe this is ERC soft without landing strip?

Someone has to cut one open and post it here.

Well I doubt if it has the new super material....graphene? But wonder if performance is similar

Yeah, the Costco's seem to have different golf ball offerings store-to-store. I've never seen the OP golf balls at my store, but I got 2 dozen of the Kirkland balls as a Christmas gift ... looking forward to trying them out.

Just know that those aren't THE Kirkland Signature balls. The famous ones. The 3 piece (silver box) is a completely different ball than the 4pc (black box) that was the talk of the town.

I was at my local Costco last Friday and picked up a pack of these (2 dozen). I figured for $29.99, it was worth a try and I took them out on a round on Saturday. It just finished raining so the course was pretty empty. So it gave me a chance on a few holes to put them up against my trusty Pro V1s. On the second hole, I hit two pretty good drives with each ball and the Pro V1 ended up 5 yards longer which could easily could have been me and not the ball. Distance-wise, the HTS was definitely on par and this was the case throughout the entire round. Where I noticed the biggest difference is when hitting in to windy conditions. On one par 3, with the pin in front, it played 142 yards in to a pretty good strong wind. I took a 7 iron (my 160 club) and with the Pro V1, was about pin high but right of the pin. I then hit one with the HTS and while it was in the air, I thought it was going to be a much better shot. So did the guy I was playing with. It ended up being about 10 yards short and landed in a bunker that was in front.

All in all, the HTS felt good around and on the greens. It didn't feel as soft as a Chrome Soft but definitely not as harsh as a Chrome Soft X. Felt good off the driver and irons. For $29.99 for 12 dozen is a darn good deal if you're not expecting it to perform like a premium golf ball.

You forget we have to wait in traffic, try to find a parking space in a busy lot. Perhaps lug the kids along to the old rat maze that is Costco. Try to force ourselves not to buy $200 worth of crap in bulk that is just going to go bad because we cannot eat/use it in time. All to get a good deal on a golf item at the front of the store.

Wait 15-25 minutes in line behind the hordes of people.

Then wait 10 more minutes at the Costco stoplight to wait in some more traffic to go home.

Oh and if your membership needs renewing , you may have to go to the “Sales Desk” where the dude or dudet behind the counter is trained to be the biggest jerk to you that they can.

And you have to pay to be a member...

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Count yourself lucky.

Well, after playing a couple rounds with these they seem similar to E6's. They fly pretty straight but roll out more with long irons. With short Irons it will stop with in 4-5 feet on the greens at least for me.

Also after doing a little research these seem to be similar to Hex Softs.

.

Stay the Course; and my the Course be with you!

I just bought my second box of these, I like em. I’m a 21 handicap so no expert when it comes to balls. What I will say is I seem to like them and on the green I really like the feel with the putter. First time I got em on sale for $24.99 for 2 dozen, today they were $29, still a good buy. I’ve also recently tried the Kirkland 3 piece and the Callaway Diablo Tour. I like the Diable Tour as well and to me they are somewhat similar in feel. Can’t find any specs on them though. The Kirkland is likable as well but feels hard when putting. Side note my Costco doesn’t carry the Kirkland ball so I have to order em.

The first four piece Kirkland balls were a wonderful gift, but a fluke. The current offerings are not tour balls. Great price if you like them, but they won’t replace your pro V1s. They’re more like competition for TruSofts or whatever they call the DT/NXT now.

I've been playing the Callaway HTS for the past year after grabbing 4 dozen when my Costco had the 2 for 24.99 deal. I like them, especially considering price point vs ProV and TP5. I get a ton fo spin on them somehow, usually a foot or two of spin or just dead stops near the ball mark. Would be more useful if I could hit it straight at the pin, but as a 12 hcp, I'll take it. Feel pretty good while putting.

The Kirkland 3 piece ball, though, I really wanted to like but ended up hating. I am using them for practice balls in the backyard right now because I think they feel like a rock. Granted someone bought them for me thinking they were the famed 4-piece, so not going to be ungrateful for free golf balls and the nice gesture, but they just don't cut it.
