when your wife says with zero prompting. "why dont you go play golf this saturday".

My wife did that once. Just don't be surprised if you decide to only play nine and come home early and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a damn magic show ready to double team... well you get the picture.

just another simple pleasure in my book.

Seriously though, solo walking an empty course as the sun goes down is tops for me. Luckily, I get to do that most nights from March to October.

Pre-apex tee grab.

YES, now we're talking. Don't even need to look where the ball landed, because you know it's perfect.

I think what you're trying to say is that true love is blind.

You'd hate Rye Hill (UK) then. They have temporary tee boxes over the winter and all they've done is move the tee markers forward onto the fairway. Several of them are sloping. Almost all are uneven. And...just why? My own club uses temporary greens on very cold mornings but that makes sense because of the difficulty of repairing them. But surely tee boxes are easy to repair.

The worst at Rye are the par 3s where they've also dropped a mat down with no attempt to provide a base for it. My own club uses mats on par 3s but they have purpose built platforms for them.

Grange park , Rotherham is just the same. T blocks thrown down on fairways. Our course is hilly. Try hitting driver off a slope where the ball is nearly level with your knees!

Like a lot on here, I love being out solo on a nice summer evening with the course wide open.

Another that comes to mind: you've finally got a really good round going when you get to like the 15th or 16th tee and then, out of nowhere, you hit a god-awful tee shot that you're sure is either in bad trouble or lost. You spend the time walking to the spot feeling totally deflated only to arrive and not only find your ball but have a perfectly clear shot to the green as well.

Fast group ahead of you

...and a slow group behind.

That's my simple pleasure, nobody behind me. I'm not a slow player by any means, but I don't mind if there's a slow group ahead as long as I can try different shots and have some fun getting extra putting or chipping in

Everyone familiar with those really pretty tile roofs? Different colors and very stylish.

Well turns out that they make the most incredible, beautiful sound when struck by a well hit Chrome Soft. Sort of like a Xylophone.

And best of all just the right angle will not only make multiple notes in one shot but the ball may actually bounce back into play giving you the icing on that sweet sounding cake.

Now granted it's not nearly a nice a sound as that hollow boom that comes from a screened in porch strike. But it's still really amazing. Almost a course challenge - who can play the first three notes of Beethoven's 5th off of the grey two story past the bunker?

Would give an awful lot for another round with Dad and Grandpa, anytime, any course, any condition. Now it's me and the nephews, and thats pretty great too.

Solo twilights rounds with deer and squirrels and bunnies and foxes and hawks. And no talking.

Keeping the same ball so long you can't remember how many rounds you've had it.

A flighted long iron

The feeling of just a flushed golf shot - whatever your level that is just pure !!

I also like in the spring when the course is a bit softer when you take just a perfect bank note divot.

Sometimes the view of a course is enough the drive in to Hollinwell early morning when you get over the crest of the hill with the clubhouse in the distance and the course in front of you in the half light magical.

It's nice to see a positive thread like this, I like it!

I love grass driving ranges. It's a rare thing here in Sweden.

Practice putting greens that actually have a large flat area.

When they say in the reception "head out anytime you want, it's really quite today".

Seeing deer, foxes and other wildlife, as long as they are not making tracks in the bunkers or jumping on the greens (or at risk of being hit by my balls).

Maybe not a "simple pleasure", but fast greens are always a great pleasure to me.

I get it, I really do. But I hit a perfect tee shot so rarely that when I do I try to admire it.

Back in the day, the sound of the cellophane on a new sleeve of balls, especially on a cold fall morning. Genuinely miss that.
