Golf Trip planning for April 16-21, recommendations welcome

Recommended Posts

fyi,,Branson is a better overall trip than the RTJ trail. The bass pro guys courses and the Payne Stewart course are better than the RTJ trail. The trails courses are too monotonous. It's seems that if you've played one or two of them, you have pretty much played them all. And I have played almost all of them. The best trail courses are the ones outside Montgomery and the one in Opelika up by Auburn where the tornado just hit. Rumor has it that when the golf courses were designed, he used the same blueprint for all the courses adapted for terrain.

Many more things to do in/around Branson even if you are not a fan of country music (which I'm not).

Wow! Where is the RTJ trail hate coming from? How many of them have you played?

Enough. From Dothan to Montgomery, SW to Mobile, NE from Montgomery to Opelika and NW to Birmingham. I was stationed in AL when I was in the service.

Play em too much, maybe? I'm sure I'd enjoy it since I've never been down there.

And I have a friend who has family in Muscle Shoals and he offered to reach out to them to see if they'd offer me a place to stay. Not sure I could pass that up - might be a bit of a drive to and from some courses though.

Never been on the RTJ trail but I have been to Big Cedar Lodge in Springfield MO and played Buffalo Ridge (Tom Fazio), Mountian Top (Gary Player) Par 3 Course and Top of the Rock Par 3 Course (Jack Nicklaus) which I would skip the golf there and just go to the range. Plus they just opened Ozarks National (Coore & Crenshaw) at the end of 2018.

Too much, probably. If it's a one time shot, go for it. None of the the trails courses are bad...they are just the same. Mile long tees, push up greens, 690 yard par 5's, 240 yard par 3's, 8000 yards from the back tees and some have a par 3 course attached to them. Some of the best courses I have ever played are Robert Trent Jones courses- Dunes, Air Force Academy, Congressional. These are not part of that legacy. Again not bad.
