Any long Term Black Cobra Forged Tec Irons Reviews????

Ive been a Ap2 player for a while but golf time is getting limited and I want something a tad bigger.

 

When I was fitted these were the only irons that spun more than the AP2 (Very low spin player) and they were longer and a tad easier to hit.

Granted this was the original forged tech irons which are apparently the same

 

 

Has anyone actually played these irons? Can you please advise on performace / durability / distance / forgiveness?

 

 

I think they might be my next iron. Looks are stellar.

I gamed them for a year before moving on to the Bridgestone j15 cb irons. I am a high launch high spin player and They launched a little high and spun a little much for my liking. Overall great irons. I still have them if your interested. They have c taper lite shafts in them.

I played the OG Forged Tecs. Honestly, I regret selling them. They were my favorite irons I have played.

I've only got three rounds and a couple of range sessions on mine. So far GIR is up 50% and I've had three sub 80 rounds ( 78, 79, 78 ), first time I've strung those together in a while.

( had a couple of 3 putts in each, or would have been better) Modus 105s.

I've gone through three sets in the past 5 months before getting these. Rogue Pros PXLZ 105, good feel, high flight, low spin, Had trouble holding greens, Bad Build from Callaway, specs all over the place.

Xforged 18 Modus 120s Nice but a bit too much club for me I think. Mizzy 919F PXLZ 5.5 ( was fit to these with shaft optimizer) I think the shaft was a bad fit. Hit well on monitor, good spin #s, But on course were not great for me. Didn't have that Mizzy feel, either.

Went through all these on a 90 day playability deal.

The Cobras are the best feeling of the bunch, especially for a 2 piece "forged" club. They go high, hold on firm greens and are forgiving enough without looking huge behind the ball.

Very happy with these. Black Finish seems to be very durable.

These and my Z765's aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I've owned my set for just about a year and have @15 rounds on them. They still look fantastic- the DBM finish is amazing, much better than the coating that Callaway, TM, and other companies use on their black irons. They flat out perform for me. I had my best scoring year ever last season. They look a lot smaller than the original forged tec irons, but that may just be the black finish making them look more compact. Regardless, I like them so much, I'm probably going in for a second set with different shafts.

im going to try them again this weekend. the 4 iron is on back order from cobra so I'd have to find a 4-W set somewhere. I for one love the AMT shafts

I have a set with $ Tapers and they are super irons. Not quite the same as the original. They improved the weighting to boost forgiveness and expanded the elastomer insert so the Blacks feel softer. Mine has prosoft inserts in the shafts and hard to believe how soft impact feel. The Black finish is bulletproof. To me these are one of the best irons on the market for players like me who grew up playing every day but now might hit balls once or twice a week and play once. They work if I am rusty but they don’t look overly chunky and cumbersome.

 

I am playing the Forged Tec Black one lengths for the 5 and 6 iron (which are the same length as the standard 7 iron) then the variable length heads for 7-PW. That really requires no adjustment, just was looking for more consistent middle irons.

If you are worried the black finish will fade quickly. It doesnt. I have a set of the MBs in same black finish that are over 1.5 years old and i just noticed the 7 iron is starting to look a tad shiny (instead of the more matte like finish when new) compared to say my 4 iron. Quick guess id say i have probably 150 rounds on mine. Cobra has done it right with the DBM finish.

 

The black does take a little getting used to and i guess some people think it makes the head look smaller than chrome. Once you get over that boy are they AWESOME! I handed my 6 iron to a buddy one day, he put it on the ground and said "F that this thing is TINY ill go get my own"
