Bourbon

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted in this thread for years but just bought 2 blantons and 2 northern harvest crown Royal.

Both hadn't been seen in 2 years here

I've had 4 different bottles of the Northern Harvest Rye. 1 tasted so different (wasn't good at all). 1 was close but not quite like the other 2. Researched and found out lots of variances in the batches.

I hope you got a good batch.

It's good so far, have only opened one of the bottles. I'm not too worried though because it's so cheap. If it tastes like crap than i'll use it to make Manhattan's.

The Blanton's is always good. Have opened one of those too.

But i don't drink bourbon a ton, maybe once every 1 1/2 weeks or so

Picked up this bottle of Noah’s Mill. I like it. It doesn’t have the heat you’d expect from a ~115 proof bourbon.

Great thread!

Like many here, I love me some Blanton's - it is one of my reference bourbons. Also, Four Roses Single Barrel is always in the rotation - one of the first bourbons I ever drank, just used to it.

Some others of note - to me, at least.

Weller Special Reserve and Antique - the Antique is 107 proof and great over an ice ball; really changes and opens up that way.

Michter American Whiskey

Eagle Rare - always in the rotation

Woodford Double Oaked - again, always in the rotation, good change of pace.

Russell's Reserve 10 year Bourbon (90 proof) - excellent sipper

Sazerac Rye - great for a Sazerac or Old Fashioned

Wyoming - little known, wheated, smooth

Bernheim - another wheated bourbon, good mixer

Cheers!

I’m getting so frustrated with the lack of choices in my area, I’ve been buying some rum lately.

I miss my bourbon but the jacked up prices for average bourbons is dispiriting. For the last 4 months, I cannot find: Eagle Rare, Mckenna, Blantons, Willet, etc.

Ron Zacapa is taking over my rotation.

Have you tried Kirk & Sweeney? It’s a solid rum.

I also always tout four roses single barrel.

Awesome bourbon. Before last summer's big win over the Pappy's of the world, McKenna BiB was very easy to find and always under $30/bottle. Now it's a hot secondary market whiskey and stores have a hard time keeping it in stock. Still fantastic, but much harder to find and the resulting popularity pushed the price up quite a bit.

For you rye drinkers out there, Old Forester's new rye is FANTASTIC and well under $30/bottle. Highly recommend grabbing it if you see it.

Bourbon ho here...this is my collection...well, part of it.

Favorite daily drinker(s) are:

- Anything from EH Taylor

- High West Double Rye, High West Bourye, basically anything from High West BUT their Silver Whiskey

- Old Ezra 7

I have a great local store that hooks me up with what I ask for and always has good new stuff to try. I have found that having a solid relationship

with the owner has been very beneficial.

That's a solid collection! I hope the orphan barrels are good.

Buddy of mine works for Wild Turkey... he gave me a pour of the McCaugnehey stuff... it was not alright, alright, alright... Apparently the bourbon was amazing before they aged it on mesquite... Sad day.

Completely agree with you. My favorite on earth. I had two other bottles that are now empty :)

The two pictured are '16 and' 17. Drank my '15 and another '16 I had. Big, bold, complex, absolutely delicious.

Agreed. Stagg is so good... Stagg Jr isn't a bad way to get a taste for the profile, but even that's hard to find nowadays.

I think Blantons is overrated.... Don’t get me wrong, it is good, just not for the prices being charged for it now.

To me, it is also not very bold in flavor & I greatly prefer a bolder flavor. Example of a better priced, more flavorful bourbon from the same distillery for me is Stagg Jr. much higher proof though...

It’s silly how distribution works...I can get Blantons and Stagg Jr no problem...

Never seen a bottle of Old Scout and the few times i’ve Seen that bottle of willet, it was going for double MSRP...
