I thought when someone asks for a recommendation for a certain price range people would recommend something readily available not something you can get from a once in a lifetime ebay auction. Most of these clubs people are recommending can't be bought for no 75 bucks

In the market for a dirt cheap (under $75), used driver.

    Why an older driver:
    • I'm cheap / for a second bag that stays at my parents' house and rarely gets used
    • driver tech has not changed dramatically in the past few years
    • time allows consensus to emerge (e.g. "that was a great club" or "that club was hard to hit")

    About me:
    • I'm an ok player (6 hcp). 100ish SS / 275ish yards off tee.
    • Prefer low spin drivers - my ball flight can get a little high.
    • Don't work the ball. Prefer forgiving to workable.
    • Not very sensitive to club changes - if it's a well regarded club I'll hit it well
    • Not too worried about shafts - Aldila NV shafts work well for me and I have some extras lying around

    Current thoughts:
    • Get a Titleist 915 D2. Consensus seems to be that they were great clubs
    • Pings seem great BUT G20 isn't adjustable (deal breaker), G25 has the old adapter (deal breaker), and G30 is a little beyond my budget
    • SLDR consensus say it's too unforgiving. R15 outside my budget

    • Are there any great Callaways from that era?
    • Other brands / clubs I should consider?
    • Or should I just go with a 915?

915d2 is too high on spin. I’d say 2015 Great Big Bertha with back sliding weight is your goal. Low spin and forgiving and long.

I am actually thinking of putting the sldr 430 back in the bag. Going to put my AD-DI 9X in it
On -, @43.5" playing length. Really interested to try the SLDR at a shorter length.

Low spin and forgiving, that's an oxymoron. There is however one club that meet your criteria, the grip it and rip it, 2015 AeroBurner. It has the highest and most forward combined CG in recent years (according to ****) that produced very low spin numbers for some big name reviewers. Forgiving, long and super cheap on eBay, of course. After that you're going to have to compromise. The 2016 M1 430 is a pretty good choice, but you're going to get a junker at the price point or spend a whole lot more.

No kidding - this is true. Kind of a separate topic, but is the reason they don't have the same profile as TM, Callaway, etc really just as simple as marketing and paying tour players?

That's rhetorical. No need to answer.

I game 915 d2 and love it and it is definitely a fairway finder. That being said, the aeroburner really is a great, forgotten driver. Tested one on the course and it really is a rocket launcher, if you can get over the crown graphics.
