Hot take ahead...

Tiger never plays the week before a major. Next week at the Players, Tiger will announce, like Arnie did with the other 4, that the Players is now a major...the final step in the PGA's quest to officially make it the 5th major. The neck strain is a smokescreen.

Only if one overlooks the 10-12 times he played either the Buick Open or WGC Bridgestone the week before the PGA Championship. :D

There is no bigger Tiger fan than me. That being said, why does anyone believe a word of what Tiger says about his injuries anymore? In the midst of being unable to walk stairs and popping opiates like candy in 2016, he repeatedly told the world his back was fine. Then he got his fine back fused.

Remember when he tore his ACL and said it was because he skateboarded as a kid and also because Butch made him straighten his leg at impact? Turns out it was because people trained to kill people kicked him in the knee in a NAVY Seals training exercise.

The examples go on and on.

Owes us nothing.

Guy has given more to his game, measured in great moments, than almost anyone.

Who you got that has given you more while we sit in front of the TV?

So, he wants some privacy? Maybe he lies about his injuries.

So what?

,

The other side of that is Jason Day. Says he is feeling dizzy, gets killed. Says his back hurts, gets killed. Says he has a hang nail. gets killed. So Tiger if really hurt, might as well lie about it till he knows just how long it will take then let people know. He will get killed either way.

Just to show i said it... hahaha

Tyler Ferrell on the radio, who knows a lot about athletes’ bodies, said it could be result of fused back. Hope not...

well duh, pretty obvious if you ask me.

Fused back with bad posture = compensation on the rest of the spine, and he had neck issues in the past, so not surprising to see that, lets just hope its not bulging yet

Never heard of a neck strain (strain would seem to imply muscle vs spine) that last for 3 weeks. That sounds pretty bad. Usually seems they last a day or 2.

Whiplash?

Nope, progressing osteoarthritis or degenerative disc disease

Exactly my concern which I voiced the other day. Muscle strain or classic stiff neck don't last weeks without some other underlying cause. Take it from a guy that years ago herniated a disc in his neck because he thought his "stiff neck" could be exercised away. I'm sure TW is being provided good medical guidance so he doesn't try a numskull move like I did.

In Sumo they'd call that kyujo. Sometimes it's legit but mostly amounts to the obvious pulling out of the basho by a yokozuna/ozeki after suffering a couple of bad losses.

According to my research, the Buick was 2 weeks before the PGA.

TW's probably glows in the dark with all the back and neck x-rays he's had. He and his doctors know what the problem is but that doesn't mean they will share it with us.

Paul Azinger is not optimistic

https://www.golf.com/news/2019/03/08/paul-azinger-says-tiger-neck-injury-trouble/

“He’s the most interesting guy by far who plays the game,” Azinger said. “The Tour is a two-pony show. Tiger is one pony and the rest are the other pony. Not to take anything away from those guys; they’d probably admit it, too. I think he’s a living, breathing, walking miracle.”

Well, I guess it's good that Azinger doesn't have a medical degree. I remember years ago I got a neck strain from sneezing, sometimes stuff just happens.

I won't be fully alarmed until he sits out at Augusta, until then it's a guessing game.

I'm glad Tiger is playing this week, but I got to wonder about how accurate the "no long-term concerns" assessment is? Not saying he will be "done" at some point, but at best it seems like this will be a regularly occurring issue and is more than the normal bumps and pains a 43 year old experiences. As mentioned by others, he had the tape on his neck at the Open, and went on to do just fine at the PGA / Tour Championship, so he may still look very very good in stretches. But being great for an extended period may be tough.

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/tiger-woods-says-neck-pain-byproduct-back-fusion

Woods explained Tuesday that the issues with his neck are indeed related to his surgically fused back. Because his back is fused, “the stress has to go somewhere” in his body. He says he experienced similar flare-ups last year during the FedExCup Playoffs and at the Open Championship, where he was first spotted sporting KT tape under his collar.

He stressed that there are no long-term concerns.

“To my neck? No. It's more so just my lower back,” he said. “I've got to keep that moving, even though it's fixed. I've got to keep all the other structures pliable. And that's one of the issues of having a procedure like I did, that the forces have to go somewhere. I've got to stay fit, I've got to stay on it, and have to stay as loose as I possibly can for as long as I play out here.”

Being great for any extended period of time is next to impossible. I think the youngbucks have proven that point. But I also believe it's what made Tiger the GOAT.

I can tell you from experience that KT tape doesn't fix anything. It helps to alleviate muscle strain, but is not a cure. At his age, with his history of injuries, it's prudent and encouraged to shut it down once you strain any muscles. Rest and Diet, is more important than pushing his physical limits.

I hope the Big Cat, prowls the tour for at least another decade... With his almost unlimited funds, he can surely buy the elixir of youth.. at least I hope he can..

Titleist....
