New Yonex equipment

After many years away from the main stream golfing business it looks like Yonex is trying to make a comeback of sorts. Following their excellent forgings ADX and ADX Tours they kind of lost their way with dopey looking game improvement stuff with hollow cavities. I had a chance to hit the new cyberstar forged iron and wedge. The one iron (5) I hit was excellent feeling and performing. The wedges were black and forged as well---very nice iron. Before I buy a set I will need to see the whole set to make sure they haven't got some reverse offset in the scoring irons like the Cobra CBs did ruining the looks of the set from the SSs. I also tried a Nanospeed cyberstar wood. If you can get over the name it is pretty impressive. I tried it against a X-460 Tour, XX Speed, Tour Exotics. It wasn't quite as good as the X-460 Tour but was every bit as good as the XX Speed driver and far better than the Tour Exotics. The problem with seeing a whole set is no dealers I know of plan to stock these clubs. They will order them but won't have a demo set on hand. Most demo days don't include Yonex anymore either. In our area the rep. is a high school kid who knows nothing about equipment. I guess Yonex will join Srixon, Bridgestone as less than desireable equipment to stock even though it is probably as good as the name brands.

I just saw one of the new Yonex iron sets the other day and it looked positively great compared to some of the past offerings. I think they will actually gain a few sales in the future and be remembered for more things then just the company that used to make the putter that Phil used. :D

I remember them more for being the only company then and now that produced a consistent throughout the set graphite iron shaft set. Everything at the time (including the loomis) and presently is still horrible (all over the map throughout the set). The good old gold LTB-400 shafts. Great for the drivers and forged irons. Have tried everyone's graphite set since then and nothing compares---too bad. The only people that came close were Daiwa.

What shaft was installed? What was the problem with the Exotics because I love mine?

I think that the Cyberstar forged irons have been out for awhile in Japan, but it is a great looking iron. As for Yonex in general, I agree that they made some of THE BEST graphite shafted irons ever, the Yonex Tours with the LT shafts were fantastic. I know they were expensive because of the boron, but if anyone at Yonex drops by here, please consider making a similar/updated LT available as an option:-)

Let's see in order of shafts demoed/played with in the Exotics driver 1. Aldila NV 65 X, 2. Graphite Design YS S, 3. Fuji SIX X (not offered normally), 4. Fuji High Launch S all in 8 degree heads. For me all produced the last place driver in terms of distance, accuracy, control, workability. It did look nice at address though. Glad you like yours just isn't for me.

I have a set of the irons on order but the driver is impossible to get here, really big in Japan,.

The cyberstars have been out for a while. A few of the assistant pros at my course were sponsord by them. Good irons. Similar feel/look at address as the srixon I-302 forged cavities. Good sticks!

I actually am waiting for some Yonex clubs to arrive. I'm glad to hear that somebody else thinks that the clubs look good.

(1) I bought a 9* Nanospeed driver and 13* Cyberstar 3 wood issued to Colin Montgomery for test. Yonex was trying to get him to replace the Cleveland driver he was playing. The President of Yonex delivered these to the U.K. himself. Monty bagged what he wanted and passed some on to a person at his club. I bought them off him. The clubs have CM stickers and Monty's personalized shafts from Yonex in them. I figured even if I don't like the shaft, the chance to get a maxed out Tour Issued set was too good to pass up. I bought them for less than retail price. I passed on some Callaway wedges stamped MONTY on the back--didn't see anything unusual about the grinds. Seeing the wedges convinced me that the woods were authentic however.

(2) I bought a set of Cyberstar VX irons from a mini Tour player. Same head Monty is playing. Mine shafted with DG. If these don't work, my wife will get a new set of irons.
