What was your impression? Handicaps and how it was run? Im looking at maybe 5 or so.

I take that back, I actually played in 3 last year. They were all well-run. Rounds were all around 4 hr 45 min, which is slow but seems to be pretty standard for tournament golf. They are pretty laid-back events, mostly geared toward older players, especially since most events are on weekdays. Everyone is paired based on handicap... which seems to work out fine. Everyone I played with was really friendly and enjoyable to play with. I particularly liked the group I got paired with in one event as they were younger people around my age.

One pleasant thing I noticed was that there didn't seem to be any sandbaggers. Everyone appeared honest with their handicaps. I actually won $40 in one tournament and $50 in another, which was a nice bonus.

If you are an experienced tournament golfer they might not be your thing as the OGA tour isn't that competitive or high-pressure at all. But I am new to competitive golf and just like to put a little more pressure on my game once in a while so they are perfect for me. Actually I would be playing in more of them if there were more on weekend days! BTW, sign up soon as I believe the early bird pricing ends Saturday!

Sounds perfect and thanks for the info. I'm very competitive but just never played much competitive golf. The rep for OGA at the Portland Golf Show said pretty much what you said about the lack of sandbagging and being a bit older. I'm 51 but work weekends so the Tuesday and Wednesday golf works well for me. I'm also looking for a partner to play a couple partner events. NWGOLFGUYS run a weekend series in Portland and Bend you might be interested in.

I played in a handful of events a few years ago and enjoyed it. I retired this week and, as a newly minted "senior" at 50, I'm looking at the schedule this year to see if there are any I want to play. I have my regular weekly game and want to use my newfound time/freedom to really commit to a practice schedule to see if I can get back down to a sub-3 handicap, so I may just focus on that since my wife is already worried about becoming a golf widow.

I played in 1 solo and I believe 2 partner tournies last year as a senior at 51 years of age.  Cashed in 2 of the 3 events and had a lot of fun.  My playing partner most likely won't be playing with me this year as his wife has early Alzheimer's and his life in obviously consumed with her care.

Possibly looking for a senior ( could play non-senior) partner to play a few events.  Willamette CC will be a partner tourney I'm really looking to play.  There is also an event in Pendleton at Wildhorse and over in Walla Walla at Wine Valley I would love to play.

I play to a 6 come summer and fall, but early season more like an 8 or 9 usually.

I played in a few events last year before I moved. I really enjoyed them, I played 2 events in 2018 and I think 3-4 events in 2019? I forget because I also played some Northwest Golf Guys events that were on the same courses in different months. I definitely recommend both groups if you're interested in casually competitive tournaments.

Usually play in Oregon Amateur, PNGA, Oregon Stroke play, and sometimes the WA Amateur if I have the time. I usually like to start my spring with 1 of the OGA Tour events. They are well-organized events where players are paired by handicap. I am a scratch player, and per OGA event in MY experience there are 3-10 very solid players who are all great to meet and play with. Have not had any bad experiences with sour personalities and yes it is a laid-back event. But it is organized enough where you still show up and still have fun trying to play your best. I like them as "pre-season" tournaments to work on the small stuff like actually putting-out everything inside 3 1/2ft LOL. Like the courses they pick every year. I might participate in the Astoria event or the first event at Oregon Golf Club this year. I suggest playing in one regardless if you are a skilled player or not. If you can get around and not hold people up you will enjoy yourself!
