Level Tee Boxes - The Thread of Simple Pleasures

Level tee boxes with adequate grass on the par threes. Small clubs and rural courses that get a lot of play have a hard time maintaining tees. The club I grew up playing (9 holes, a pool and two tennis courts) always scheduled the Club Championship, a two day scramble that coincided with our big swim team event and then our Invitational tournament all in the month of June.

 

By the 2nd round of our Invitational the par three tee boxes were dirt.

 

But it was still a great place to grow up playing golf, fishing and counting the days until turned 18 and could finally go into our (completely illegal) 19th hole.

Standing on the tee and looking at the two tone mow lines on the fairway.

 

Wildlife on the course. I have been lucky enough to see eagles, bear, moose, owls, hawks, and fox.

 

That moment when a well struck shot comes down from the sky into the mountain backdrop so I can see it better.

 

Good bounces, and I rely on those.

When you hit your tee shot into the woods/tall rough and have no idea where the ball is..... yet, against all odds, you find the ball and put it back in play

A proper yardage marker on the tee box for par 3s or holes with forced carry/trouble at the end of the fairway.

It would speed up play if they would just throw a plaque down that says “ohh by the way its 250 from here to carry that creek”.

Which begs the question:

 

What IS the "correct" way to rake a bunker?

 

I know what I was taught as a caddy, but - is the way that I do it "correct"?

 

Supposedly, the rake lines left in the sand should flow in the direction of the flag, to more easily accomodate the play from the sand, and alleviate the possibility of having a rake "ridge" behind your ball for the bunker shot.

 

I say phooey - you hit it in da bunker, you gets what you gets...usually a heel print about halfway down in the sand towards China, at least that is what seems to happen to me.

My local muni has one of those. No one ever really knew what the distances were to a creek that cuts across the fairway. The 3 tee boxes are all really long, so the distance can vary tremendously. It's a nice touch.

Don't want to make you feel bad, but I just played an evening solo round the other day and it was glorious. The weather was 75 and partly cloudy. I love living in the South this time of year.
