Mizuno 2019

Recommended Posts

I really wish they offered the ST190 in a 12 degree. Doesn't make much sense (to me at least) to have a 9.5 and a 105.....space it out a little

You can loft it up also. I played around yesterday with a 10.5 set to 11.5.

That tends to close the face, which doesn't do me any favors

The 10.5° head is actually more of a 12° head. It had been stated that Mizuno labeled it as a 10.5 for marketing purposes.

As I understand it, there is a 10.5 high launch that is 12. Why they don’t call it 12?

Stigma. Was a marketing decision. Lots of people wont play HL or 12 deg heads because they dont like the fact that theyre by and large made for 'old people' or 'ladies clubs'.

Is the 919 Hot Metal Pro 3 iron going to only be tour only? I see Koepka is possibly throwing it in the bag. Vijay has the 4 and 5 but no 3.

Any chance at all we see a Hot Metal Pro 2 iron? Would love to put my MMC FliHi 2 iron against that and see who wins.

The 4 iron is 20 degrees. I’m guessing the tour only 3 iron is 18 or 17 degrees. If they made a 2 iron, it would be 15.5 or 15 degrees. Now you’re talking my language!

Well if that 3 iron comes in at 17* then we’re good to go.

Yeah and heaps load of offset. For many players, sGI models rarely suited for driving irons for this reason. Not the same modified 3-irons these tour lads get.

Late joining this thread, so apologies if well discussed already

But thinking hard about grabbing a 190 Driver - never played a Mizuno club before

I have a low spin/launch swing and generally hot melt toe or lead tape it to hold off hook as a miss - 100/105 mph speed

G400 has been the best for me - helps with spin, huge moi, etc

Any thoughts on whether the 190 would suit me?

Much appreciated

I thought that was already in there? Or is not yet for the new 3D shaft optimizer?

Not sure. I was told 3/1 last month but haven’t had the chance to get to my local shop to see yet

Listening to the podcast with Voshall. Said 3/1 they launched to retail essentially and places will have a "woods package" or something. So i'm assuming its that? He said its not going to be where they give you 20 clubs to try so that retailers dont have to worry about the merch moving

Sounds great. I guess I’m not far enough into the podcast yet to hear him talk about it. I’ll have to stop by my local shop sometime soon!

The ST190G may be a better fit for you as you'll have more manipulation over flight and spin characteristics. Both are great drivers, but I strongly advise getting fit for the right shaft as that really unlocks these heads.

Been looking into the Hotel Metal Pro's after I was surprised at how nice they are at a demo day. Was going to ask around to see if anyone who had them looked into making a blended/combo set of irons with these as the long irons since they're so strongly lofted, but it looks like the short irons have 5 degrees of gap between them, so didn't know if any short irons would work with them/blend well together with them. Looking forward to testing these out some more and hopefully ordering a set.

Our local golf dome had the ST190 and ST190G available to demo with the plastic on the heads still. They had a bundle of shafts but all regular/stiff atmos and one ts 6x black. I didnt see any sort of wood DNA device, but then again I didnt look very hard.

I am thinking the 190 is better with higher moi

Don’t need to manipulate as much as looking for higher spin than average high end driver - like g400 is/was

Taylor made far too low spin for guys like me - need huge swing speed to ‘unlock’ them

The ST190 is still a low spin driver even when compared to the ST190G. I have put both side by side and there wasn’t much in it at all. My point was that you have more control over spin conditions with the ST190G because you can move the weights back and forth to help with spin as needed.

Any update yet on when the software will come out for the shaft optimizer to include driver/fw shaft recommendations?

Got our new optimizer in. Has the obvious shaft recommendations but also will measure lie angle in conjunction. There are driver and fw shaft recommendations along with hybrid shafts... but the rep sort of explained it as their recommendations are more based of the same bend profile/flex as the irons. Have yet to test it since it needs iOS and haven’t gotten our iPads in.

got rid of my 190 after 2 weeks. couldnt get the spin below 2800 and it was therefore 10-15 yards behind my OG M2.

Strange , my 190 spins about 500 less than the m2 even with a degree more loft !
