Who got in the Open due to this tournament?

https://pgatourmedia...40?openDocument

For the first time, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard offered three spots into The Open Championship at Royal Portrush (July 14-21). Three players who finished in the top 10 and ties who were not already exempt qualified – Sungjae Im (T3), Keith Mitchell (T6) and Sung Kang (T6)

Americans cannot play tough courses with rough up? there i said it.

GO ITALYYYYYY! Awesome win by FM.

Rory is a bum, no one is shocked.

TW not being ther and no Arnie def. made this tourney more lame.

Unfortunately for you tiger hurt his neck looking up at the leaderboard wondering why he’s never on it, apart from being some kind of notable ?

Luckily Kang got in and he didn’t backstop. Would have ben a bigger uproar had he gained a stroke.

This is the first PGA Tour event in which no Americans finished in the top-5 since the 2010 Open at St Andrews.

Amazing who comes out on top with thick rough and lots of penalty areas.

I was thinking the same thing. Course seemed to favor accuracy, precision, and good work on the greens. Bomb and gouge was not in play. Harkens back to the Ryder

I understand what the strokes gained stats say. But I've always wondered whether how much the results are a by-product of how a typical PGA course is setup. For entertainment purposes, 300 yard drives and birdies sell, so it's not going to change. But I wonder what the stats look like for the U.S. Open + 9 other courses with the thickest rough/hazard guarded greens...

Robert Gamez hit a 7i 176 yards in 1990.

Where was the roll the ball back crowd back then?

Asking for a friend.

That’s not a huge 7 iron . Not even then. Fitzpatrick hit one 200 and rolled out to 204 today into one of the par 3s . And he’s not “ long”.

It is for mere mortals.

Certainly beyond my comprehension.

I understand. But it’s far from crazy to them. Which is why bifurcation is wedging it’s way in.

I think it's like a chicken and egg situation. The two top 15 all time mega stars of the last 25 years are also two of the more inaccurate drivers compared to the all time greats. Did tour events determine they need to set up courses to suit Tiger and Phil in the hopes of getting them to play there or did they take advantage of the way courses had been set up? This week is a great indication. Although both have won Phil's overall record at Sawgrass is poor and I don't have Tiger's but it seems like besides his two wins it's not a course he plays well consistently. Most of our courses allow for recovery shots. Places like TPC Sawgrass and Le Golf Nationale do not. Looking back at past champs you do see a tendency for ball strikers to win the Players; Webb, Sergio, Stenson. I'd imagine given form you'll see a Molinari/Fleetwood type winner this week.

Was running errands all day yesterday, didn't get to watch any golf, and didn't check the leaderboard until this morning. I had Rory finishing -12 and Fitz at -10. Never a second thought about Molinari. Glad to see Keith Mitchell shoot another good round and finish top 10. Geez Rory - what a day to shoot even par.

Molinari didn’t really win did he, you guys must be pulling my leg?!

Danny Choo said his game would fall apartment because he changed equipment. Where is Danny!?

I was literally thinking the same thing. Takes Exposed on Twitter would be having a field day with Danny boy. Absolutely hilarious.

I can’t find the thread though, did he have it deleted or have I just not looked in the right place?

No disrespect to the king, he was great. But this year it’s a little boring !

I always find the Valspar exciting for some odd reason.

I think it's more on the players, that was a stacked leaderboard ready for an onslaught on Sunday and no one other than Molinari found the gas.

Choo is right. Molinari should have won by 10.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

TBH, last year's Valspar ended exactly like the API yesterday. With somebody early on shooting an amazing score and none of the leaders could compete later in the day. The only difference is that there was a certain person dressed in black and red last year who we hadn't seen a whole bunch who's play kept it interesting.

In my opinion, since the course is already 7400 yards, I'd like for them to choose between 2 of the 3 with regards to thick rough, water hazards, and hard/fast greens. All three seemed to make the course seem like no way anybody could make a charge late in the day.

Oops, I know quoting my own post is bad, but I absolutely hate autocorrect and auto fill. Why would the stupid iPad change apart to apartment? Have to proofread better.
