Rosco1216’s 2022 WITB, new(old) irons set for the year!

Recommended Posts

Well tomorrow is a big day. Going to be 60* + so I’ll be out on the course. I have my diamana DF and atx green ready to go and I just got a dozen of the new srixon xv and Bstone Tour B X. The reason it’s a big day is because I’m going to make a decision between those 2 driver shafts.

This really only means that the loser will be sold to help fund a new 130 rogue white to try. Seeing as though I’m between jobs currently and I have a golf trip in a couple of weeks, I can’t justify the purchase of a new rogue white. But that doesn’t mean I can’t unload of items to fund it, right?

Interested in your thoughts of the ATX vs the DF. Although, with 1.75" of tipping, we are probably living in completely different playing conditions!

Which of the two offered the most "feel"? How similar do they seem to be in ball flight? From what I've read on each, I would imagine the DF felt stiffer? I'm looking for Pro Orange like performance with a bit more action in the feel department. Trying to gather info from any source I can at the moment.

Launch wise they are similar for me. The green feels a little firmer with less feeling load and kick. The DF feels awesome, traditional whiteboard profile but with a little firmer handle. DF will spin more of course but if paired with a lower spinning head it’s an amazing combo.

Why such low swing speed? Is that your keep it in play swing? J/K

Impressive numbers. That explains the almost two inches of tipping! Going to a 60 gram shaft, are you tipping that even more?

I actually think it’s automatically giving a 1.5 smash and estimating club speed from ball speed reading. I did hit a few that certainly weren’t squared up perfectly and they all said 1.5.

I was just teasing you.

But dude, that ball speed. And, it may be under estimating your swing speed. With a less than perfect strike, it would take more effort to get those speeds.

It’s typical for me in mid season form. So pleasantly surprised to be there when I’m just now starting to get rid of the rust.

You finding a big difference in spin just going from the g400 to the m3?

I hit a tour issue m4 last night lofed down and opened up and it was great. Seemed to spin less and a more flat ball flight

If true playing loft is identical the m3 spins less but not by as much as you’d think. My G400 max tour head had a playing loft of 7* and paired with the tour green I was getting approx 11* loft and 2500-2600 spin. I have the m3 at 7.9* and was averaging 12* and 2800 spin with the Diamana DF. I’d guesstimate that with all variables the exact same the m3 probably spins 200rpm less than my g400max tour head did.

EDIT: But then again I don’t have my m3 weights adjusted for the lowest spin setting either. I have 7g of melt toe side and forward with one weight in the middle and one weight in the rear. So I guess it could be set up to spin lower.

Any concerns going down in weight? Are you needing to add any weight to the head to get the swing weight back up?

The raw weight is 69g so it’s not much lighter overall. Interesting tidbit is that the balance point is actually lower than it is with the DF. I will check the SW when I get to the course in the next couple days. With the white being a lighter shaft( albeit not by much) and counterbalanced, I have an extra 5g weight en route for my m3 in case it swingweights a little too light.

Seeing as though the wrx redesign kept me off wrx for 6 months I figured its time for an update on the WITB. I went through a ton of stuff over the spring and summer but this is the bag currently..

I have an epic flash 8.5* triple diamond from the tour van that I had in the bag with Fuji pro 2.0 TS 6x that was in the bag for awhile but went back to TM. It currently is about to get put up on the BST and has the tour green 75tx in it.

Iron shafts: I went through 7.0’s, nippon SPB x hard stepped and the 120tx’s multiple times throughout the summer. Ended up with 120tx in the new miuras and the SPB’s in my backups(J15cb’s)

Driver: M5 @ 7.2* - Diamana DF 70tx tipped 1.75”

3W: don’t ever hit one so nothing in bag currently.

DI: Ping i500 4i @ 20* - Modus 120tx

Love the bag, would happily play all of it.

What are the feel and performance differences between the 120 TX and the SPB? Looking to possibly move from X100's to one of these.

Feel wise they are both very smooth, in case you have never hit either. Hardstepped SPB X and 120tx are very similar, could play either or without seeing or feeling any difference. I did play SPB x straight in years ago and loved them but wanted a little firmer feel and tighter if I ever went back to them, so I hardstepped them the next time around. 120tx will spin and launch a touch lower than SPB X straight in but feel similar.

It never really took over indefinitely. My first DF snapped mid round in August when I was having a career round. I used the Fuji until I got the DF replacement from MCA a few weeks later.

They are pretty similar in terms of performance but M5 sounds better, little lower spin and hasn’t failed on me yet. I cracked 4 retail m3 heads and flattened the face on one tour issued head.

It’s been 2+ years since I updated this thing so I figured I’d give a current bag description! I’ll upload some more pics later if anyone wants to see them.

Driver: I’ve recently decided to go to a short set up and currently have 2 I’m testing. Both at 44.25* and D5.

1: Callaway Epic Max LS 10.5* w/ @MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL Diamana PD 70tx tipped 1” to start but may tip more.

2: Taylormade TI M3 10.5 w/ @Fujikura GolfVentus Black 7x tipped 2”.

Hybrid: Ping g410 @ 16* w/ Hzrdus Black 85 6.5.

Driving Iron: Callaway Apex UT 21* w/ Aldila RiP 105x.

Irons: 4-P Honma 737v w/ PX 7.0

Wedges: @Sub70Golf 286 raw 50/55/59* with s400.

Putter: currently rotating 2 setups. I play on a vast assortment of green speeds. When greens are running quick I will game the lighter Scotty. Otherwise I will game the Odyssey.

1: Odyssey White Hot OG 1WS w/ KBS CT Tour shaft.

2: Scotty Oil Can Classic Catalina Two.
