Hotels and golf courses in Myrtle beach

Recommended Posts

In may i am going to Myrtle beach to play golf and have some fun. I am from The Netherlands and I was wondering where it is best to stay and what recommendations you have for golf courses.?

I am staying there from friday until tuesday

Do you need to book tee times in advance?

After that I am going to visit Augusta national.

First time there?

Great news is that Myrtle has 100+ courses

I haven’t played anywhere close to all of them but the two has stuck with me

Dunes

TPC Myrtle

I think folks can have an easy 10 favorite courses. The amount of golf available there is just tremendous

Hotels - depends on if this a guys trip or family trip

Marriott resort (I’m a Marriott guy and I prefer a bigger hotel)

Re: Augusta

My humble opinion, not much in Augusta aside from their golf course

Have fun!

Local and member at the Dunes Club here...if you are serious golfers and want to play the best course, and are willing to spend a little cash, call the Dunes club directly and ask which hotels allow you to get access and make tee times at the Dunes Club. I promise, it is by far the best course with the best conditions in Myrtle Beach.

Also, TopGolf just opened last week, so there's your evening activity...

I did the Myrtle thing a few years back through Legends Golf and all the courses we played through them were amazing. They had 3 courses on there property and have two others off campus. We also opted to pay for TPC Myrtle which was another gem in itself. Have heard rave reviews of Tru Blue and Caldoneia. I believe those are down in the inlet.

Costs and criteria are a big factor in what you choose. Lodging ranges from ordinary to premium.

Courses range from $50 to $250, so there isn't one answer.

MB courses are spread out along the coast around 40 miles north + south of MB, so no need to drive to far when you

haven't played any of them.

As first time visitors, you probably want to stay on the beach. Although condos on golf courses are usually cheaper.

North Beach is super premium.

Island Vista is premium.

Hotels in MB Golf Holiday tend to be those that golf package players prefer, as good enough but no too expensive.

Premium Courses: The Dunes, Tidewater, Barefoot, TPC, Caledonia, Kings North, Grande Dunes,......

Upper Mid: Wild Wing, Farmstead, Legends,

Average: I don't think you want them.

For specific courses on specific days, booking in advance is good. As tee times shrink, prices can go up.

As you narrow you list down, it helps later to say something like, is this lineup any good.

You can also work with a packager: Brian at MyrtleBeachGolfPackagers.com

From recommendations here and what you find and see on websites, it will be helpful for you to list the

lodging and courses that interest you. Members here can tell you which are good and if any are bad.

The amount of lodging and number of courses is overwhelming. The number of good options and lineups is

almost unlimited. We can tell you the best courses, but if you don't want to pay that much, it's not of much use.

You can be very happy with courses priced in the middle, depending on budget.

I would certainly plan on other activities in Augusta because the most your going to see at Augusta National is a gate. Not even that exciting of a gate to be honest! Lol. Play golf at the River Golf Club right across the river from downtown Augusta maybe and eat at Tbonz on Washington for sure!

It may sound crazy but i just going to take a picture at the gate because I will never get in.

I will look at Tbonz in Washington.

Double Tree hotels are nice, but you are right under planes landing and taking off and only blocks away from what appears to

be a higher crime area, South Ocean BLVD between this hotel and 501. That is why I recommended 21st Ave N up to

82nd, up to Barefoot Landing.

You should have a rental car to enjoy MB, but if you can't, then use taxis and Uber. Then play courses not far from

central MB, Grande Dunes, Pine Lakes, The Dunes, Arcadian Shores, World Tour, Arrowhead.

Why would you drive all the way to Augusta to just take a picture of the gate? Seems kind of pointless. You'd be better off driving to Pinehurst and playing a bunch of golf there!

Ditto on the Dunes...by FAR the best course down there!

My favorites after the Dunes are TPC Myrtle Beach, Caledonia, True Blue and Kings North.

Since your from the Netherlands, you might enjoy World Tour. Its kind of gimmicy but it has holes that mimic some of the best from around the world....ie, amen corner, St. Andrews, Island green from Sawgrass....

BTW, I would skip Augusta and go to Kiawah. You won't be disappointed!
