What is Tiger's putter worth? Great Golf Channel piece

Very nice piece by Golf Channel on what Tiger's Scotty Cameron putter might be worth.

I laughed when the "expert" said $3-$5 million. In world where Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona watch sold for $17 million, I can't see the most famous putter in golf selling for less.

What was interesting is how he wanted to swing weight to be D2... I am assuming he plays it at D6/D7 right now.

Haha agreed... $3-5 million PLEASE! With most of the richest people in the US being golfers I'd bet it would go for $50 million plus.

50M seems a bit excessive. My wager would be 6-12M unless you just get some crazy bidding war.

Lets not forget that a pga tour used TW stamped Tei3 sold for around 40k. Plenty of people here though it would go for no less than 500k. Plenty of others said much more.

50 million is a joke. That's just scotty doing some marketing. 5 million is a good estimate with 6-12 million, as said above, a realistic possibility.

Edit: $53k

Sorry about that. I saw the full piece on Live From and thought the link on their site was to the full story.

That's a good point. I guess that's the difference in perceived value as a fan and someone actually being willing to spend that much money on a putter. It would be interesting to see what would happen if it ever did go to auction.

I could see him selling it for his foundation when he gets to be 70 or 80. Kareem Abdul Jabar just did this with a lot of his championship rings and whatnot. You've all got plenty of time to save up.

But I don’t want it when I’m 70 I don’t think I’d get enough use out of it then. I want it now.

Would need enough practice to get used to it in time for the club championship.

After watching this fascinating story on Golf Channel, I did some further research online about Tiger's putter. I was surprised to find out that, even though it's true that Scotty Cameron made the stainless Newport 2-type putter for Tiger as he described in the story by drilling the two holes and filling them with red paint at the last minute before he mailed it to Tiger at the 1999 Byron Nelson tournament, the true story of his putter takes a strange turn that wasn't discussed in the Golf Channel piece.

Tiger only used that putter for one tournament, the 1999 Byron Nelson, where he shot the first-round 61. Immediately after that tournament, Scotty made Tiger an exact duplicate of that putter, but this newer one was made in German Stainless Steel, and sent it to him the following week. This second Newport 2-style putter is the one he's played ever since and is playing now.

So I wonder where that first one is now? Even though it was made with regular stainless steel, I'm sure it has a nice feel to it and performs well.

When Tiger decides to retire, the putter will be in a display case at his foundation's HQ. I would be astonished if it ever comes up for sale.

After Tiger retires we may never see the putter again. He’ll be buried with it when he passes.

in the piece, it looked like Scotty had a replica with a milled face and T.W. initials on the toe. It was stunning!!!!!

Wasn’t there a recent article that mentioned Cameron made dozens of replicas over the years for Tiger, each intended as a backup, and Tiger rejected all of them because they don’t quite feel the same as his gamer. No idea if they were stamped but there’s either a closet full of replicas somewhere or they were sold without the pedigree.

To be fair, the Daytona by itself is a very expensive watch. A vintage one is incredibly expensive, a Paul Newman vintage model even more expensive (were talking hundreds of thousands.) Now Paul Newman's actual cosmograph, at $17m, that's believable. The intricacy that goes into producing these swiss watches even now is incredible, but back then by hand is even more incredible.

A stainless steel hunk of metal owned by Tiger with no intricate moving parts...$6m-$12m is more believable.

Amazing that the last two Woods putters made for him but he rejected have sold for $22,784 and $53,146 respectively (Green Jacket Auction)! No record of him gaming these in competition to my knowledge. Sure he would have tinkered around and had them in his possession however they were given away or give back the Cameron. Both in rough shape too. That is called the a Midas Touch! Who even knows how many of these are out there?

I remember reading another story about Tiger having two putters completely off limits for his kids to ever touch and the he would always keep. The 97 Master's Terilium and the famous GSS that won the other 13 majors using. Without doubt those are of great value like the priceless Calamity Jane. Historic value.

If it was posted on bst. First PM....Can I get some up close face, sole and top line pics please. I think I see some brush marks on the sole and that worries me. Would you take $85 shipped?
