2019 Ping G410 Hybrid and Ping G410 Crossover

Recommended Posts

Ordered a G410 2 Crossover with the Tensei Blue 80HY TX.

Hit inside on the GC2HMT and initial impressions are strong to fairly strong. I enjoy driving irons and this one is among the longest (though is 1* stronger than my PXG, New Level, and Cobra DIs) and most forgiving. Pure strikes feel great, mishits can get a bit clunky... similar to the i500.

One thing that surprised me is the stock 2 length is fairly long at nearly 40.5", about an inch longer than my other DIs. I was apprehensive at first but those fears quickly went away as even mishits were serviceable.

This thing is LONG and the shaft/head combo is low spin giving great rollout (on the launch monitor). Trying to figure out if it's a mix of the stronger loft and longer shaft, but I am getting 3-wood carry and great roll-out, around 3K spin. At least 10-15 yards longer than my next longest DI. Very impressed considering how easy it is to hit.

It has quite a bit of offset, and I did notice this at address. But the sole width and overall size is very appealing.

True test is when I hit it on the course and I will report back, but great first impression.

The 410 line in general is very appealing to me aesthetics wise but the massive turbulators keep me from splurging (thankfully)

I wouldn't get so hung up on the turbulators... I got over them like 5 years ago with my first G30.

The performance of the head itself is very much worth getting used to the crown.

Much better than looking down on a two-toned head or carbon fiber that looks like its moving in the sunlight.

That's way more distracting to me than the turbulators, which actually are very effective at framing the ball.

Went to my local golf store today and hit both the crossover and the hybrid. Both were amazing.

Looks:

-Crossover is just stunning. Much nicer than the G400.

-The Hybrid is decent. Not too big but not small. It looks like a well proportioned hybrid with turbulators.

Feel/Sound:

-Crossover is much improved over previous years. Definitely still hollow but more muted than I thought it would be. Overall, I really like it.

-The hybrid sounded pretty good. Honestly, I really never liked hybrids but I would try them out every so often. I like the sound of this one though. Not as high pitched as some of the other ones on the market.

Performance:

-The Crossover is awesome. If you want a versatility, this is it. I had a lot of fun hitting this club. Whatever you wanted to do, it would do it. Plenty of height if you need it and enough spin to control it. I thought it was much more forgiving than the previous iterations as well. This was really a joy to hit.

-The Hybrid was a pleasant surprise. The adjustability on the hosel made this club much more versatile than I has assumed. Default is much higher than the crossover, but you can still flight it low if need be. Not as long as other hybrids, but I like that. I want a club to fit a specific gap and this one does consistently. Obviously, this was much more forgiving than the Crossover-but that is not a bad thing.

Overall:

I think Ping created 2 really amazing options. I went into a fitting today and the Crossover beat out everything else I had tried (woods, utility irons and other hybrids) from a variety of manufacturers. Once we got the right shaft, the performance was really consistent. I tried the G410 Hybrid on a whim really but was pleasantly surprised. The adjustability did wonders. Flattening out the lie angle really helped the hooking tendencies I had with the other hybrids I had tried and the distance was spot on what I needed between my 3W and my 4 iron. If I was playing more, I would have bought the Crossover; however, I don't get out there as much as I would like. I found the hybrid to be much more forgiving with very similar performance. Ping has a couple of great contenders.

I apologize for the confusion, when I checked in with engineering they did not have the information to give to me. I reached out to them and let them know that we have a consumer that would really like to know the offset numbers. So they have given them to me and they are listed below:

2XR-.215

3XR-.195

4XR-.180

Again I apologize for the misinterpretation on my part and we hope that you will still consider our customer service team to be one of the best.

= quite heavy offset numbers.

I had inquired about the offset figures as well. It looks like Ping finally added the numbers to the G410 and G400 Crossover specs on the website. They've also added the offset figures for the original G Crossovers (just change the last part of the web address and this club still shows up event though there is no link).

I didn't get a chance to hit the Crossover, but saw it today and loved the look. I wish Ping offered it in 5 & 6 iron lofts.

I wish the made the Crossover in higher lofts as well. Although for someone what doesn't have a super high swing speed, I think the G410 looks a lot more traditional iron like and doesn't have the visual help of "half hybrid" like the two prior models.

I understand what they are doing though. The probably didn't sell too many of the Crossover 5s, and the people that can play the lower lofts (i.e. high swing speed) probably prefer the current look more.

I do kind of think that a G700 5 iron, possibly bent a degree strong, would probably work just as well for what I'm looking for.

For about a month, I've compared both at my local store on GCQuad. My take is the TM 2 UDI head felt heavier, so i could definitely feel where the head was throughout the swing. The store only had the Hazardous shaft available, and it felt 'ok'.

17˚ Crossover in Tensei felt a tad too light. Light feeling shafts get me swinging too hard and get out of control. I've had a version of that shaft in a driver and i didn't get along with it, so preconceptions with it were already shot. With the Ping Tour shaft, a bit more balanced and stiffer in the tip area, resulting in better dispersion. I would have liked to try a version with the Evenflow shaft, but the store didn't have any in stock.

At address, Crossover does have some noticeably more offset and longer head than the 790 udi, but it's still pleasing. The Crossover probably inspires a bit more confidence in me as well. Toplines are nice for both.

Launch numbers for me were roughly the same for both clubs. Typical 5 wood distances for me, but definitely more penetrating (obviously). 790 did feel hotter off the face. Super penetrating bullet-tracers from GCQuad. However, the Crossover was more consistent and forgiving. Miss hits weren't that punishing. With the 790, I felt strikes caught high on the face, balls just fell out of the sky. Not so much with the Crossover. Seemed easier to get the ball in the air.

One thing I had to get use to, is the hollow head feel. It's taken a while to understand what a good strike felt and sounded like with these clubs. I've gone back to the local store and hit these back-to-back for about a month now, and i'm still undecided. Looks and feel, i'll go with the 790. Consistent and forgiving, Crossover. That's not to say the Crossover doesn't look and feel as good as the 790 or vise versa. Very one the fence with both of them.

Awesome info. Thanks! I’ve played the udi for the last year and agree with everything. My only complaint with udi is shots high on face and elevating off the deck. I pulled my HZRDUS Black 6.5 this week for a Tensei White 90tx and feel is night and day from Hzrdus in a good way. If you want something that feels good and very stable highly recommend.

I think that might be the deciding point for me picking the Crossover...off the deck option. I'm mainly going to use this off the tee on tight holes, and super low recovery shots. But having another option to use off a clean fairway lie would be great too. I've taken a couple swings off the fluffier portion of the hitting mat, and it was unquestionably easier to elevate over the udi. But again...i'm really not as sold on the face feel of the Crossover.

Forgot to add I do not play a 3 wood and my udi is bent to 16 degrees. If had to guess you could probably loft udi up to 18-19 degrees and it would launch off the deck much easier and still spin low enough to get similar carry numbers to crossover at 17. This is just my guess though.

Hit the crossover with the tour shaft at demo day at the local range tonight. I hit it really well. Might be the best driving iron I have hit so far.

bump this tread back with an update. Finally pulled the trigger on the 20˚410 Crossover. Have to admit for eating crow about the Tensei Blue shaft. The Tensei started to click better with a somehow 'improved' swing as of late. The tour shaft now feels dead and not as snappy. I was getting better ball speed and easier to launch with 20˚ loft and shaft combo. 12 total swings...3 swings back n forth with each shaft, and the Tensei was definitely more consistent for me. Consistency is also the reason i didnt go with the 17˚. More than happy with the new addition to the bag.

I have both.

G400 in Xflex ping tour #3 bent down to 17 degrees.

G410 in stiff, tensei blue @ native 17.

Most I got out of G400 was 263 on GC2, within 10 minutes of trying I already got about 10-12 yards more max more with G410 but that was on nailed hits.

BUT.

I got 4-5 MPH extra club head speed with the 410 because of the stiff shaft, so I think that is the only reason its longer.

Personally, I'm considering going back to the G400 .

The 410 looks better, but I think its more of a players iron than the G400. It reminds me a lot of the P790 udi at address. Its probably more forgiving, but I think I hit my G400 better.

Don't get me wrong, its a lovely looking club and like the G400 goes miles, but I'm not yet sold after it let me down a few times today. (ok i let it down)

You can buy g400 crossover's in the UK for around the £100 second hand on ebay in great condition and the go all the way up to the 5.

That's a fair bit cheaper than the G410's which are going for around £150 second hand and only go up to #4.

Personally I think the smart money is with G400 and whatever distance exists between these clubs, trust me, is very minimal.

> Anyone have some follow up on the crossover? The hybrid has been well received, but I'm considering a 23º... and I'm also considering a DG 120 instead of the Tensei. Thoughts?

The Crossover has been a real winner for me this year. Entered the season with some issues to keep the ball in play from on narrower holes but also hitting hybrid way too high from tee, causing issues in windy conditions. Went to a local demo day where almost all big manufactures took part with an open mind just wanting to try out different options.

After basically testing all available driving irons together with a couple of more 'players hybrid' there's a clear winner in the G410 Crossover. Sure the Callaway UT Forged felt better when middled but results were inconsistent, major drop off in length on poor hits with stock shaft. The Callaway rep wasn't very helpful nor did they have any other shafts to try. Meanwhile at Ping they let me test various different shafts, but also the i500 3iron and 410 Hybrid in order to settle with my best option.

I hindsight the key was to try different shafts in the clubs, I was all set about getting a DI with a steel shafts but once comparing actual numbers there was no questions that the G410 Crossover with the Tensei Pro Blue 80 TX was the club to buy.

It has been a real success on the course since then, I've scored some of the scores in my life this season and a big part of it is that I now have a safe shot to keep me in play. Can highly recommend the club, but as always make your own testing in order verify it fits your criterias.

Hi guys, I have a question that I need some guidance on.

I have a G410 crossover 2 iron, blue dot, with the standard offering - Alta CB 70g stiff shaft. (Driver speed 105mph)

As far as I understand, the blue dot means that it is bent 0.75 degrees upright.

When fitted, all my clubs' shafts were cut 0.5" shorter.

However, I bought this club at standard length + the blue dot makes it more upright (than what I'm used to).

Would it be fair to assume that cutting this crossover by a full inch (1"), it would compensate for the 'blue dot' (upright lie angle) AND it would blend/fit into the rest of my set regarding the length??

Does this make sense? Let me know your thoughts.
