I'm using the 3 wood set to 16 at the moment. After using the TM HL for the last few years, I was surprised that this was much better. Ok, so the blue isn't for everyone but you don't notice it after a while.

It's a good 10 yards longer, the flight is penetrating and it's great out of most lies. Thoroughly underrated club in my opinion.

Why do you use the HL?

The HL was better off the deck than the standard I found. Laterally it seemed to struggle for distance. The ST180 is just as easy to hit and when I hit it hard it goes and then some. Very happy with it.

St190 is suppose to be better. I love my jpx 900, not the longest long but straight. I tried the st180 and it was a little better than not worth upgrading. I’ll be trying the st190 glued 5 wood.

I looked into them after getting the driver, but when I found they didn't make a 7W, I decided to hang onto my JPX 850 3w & 7w. Can't see a ton of difference in them TBH and they perform very well for me.

Ive played, bagged them all back to the 850. The 900's with the EVO2 661-757 were so straight an always in play...not the longest but certainly consistent and I enjoyed them for a year and a half. The ST180 are just as forgiving and with the TENSEI Blue 7S was one of the best 3woods I have ever played, forgiving and right on with my M4 3 wood in distance. I evened a few of them blacked out by Conti Golf to over come the blue (which I like but just wanted to try something different).

OP I think your going to like it with the right shaft and maybe wait till you can hit the 190 too then go from there. The 180's can be had for great prices these days.

For the prices, these look really appealing. The 5 wood turned down a degree would make a great substitute for a 4w, especially at a shorter length (heavier head).

Even if you hate the blue it would still be cheap to buy one and get it refinished.

I've had the ST180 in the bag for a while, got it off eBay for a steal price. For me it's long, easy off the deck and I rarely miss left with it, which is a huge plus for me. i have it at plus 1º loft so around 16 and that seems to get the longest carry for me. Love this club especially when my driver is off.

I decided to buy one, going for the 5-wood so I can play a ~42 inch wood at 16 or 17 degrees.

The blue looks great in person, but what's really nice is how this club sits on the ground. I love a shallow faced fairway wood and the ST180 seems to hug the ground.

These FWs do sit nice on the ground. I love the shape of the face. Picked one up out of the bin today in my never ending quest for a 3w I am comfortable with and was pleased to see 220-230 carry, which for me is good. Then I realized I was hitting the 5w. LOL I don't mind the blue as much in the FW as much as the driver but the ease of use of this thing, plus good distance really has me interested....

Sound performance and feel are all great with the right shaft in the ST180. Loved my 3 wood with the Speeder Evo 2 and 3 757S. If I didn’t like the look of the ST190 TS it would still be on the bag.

How do the heads compare? The 180 looks to be somewhat flat on the bottom of the face, almost Ping like.... is the 190 similar? The face of the 190 in pics looks deeper...

Definitely deeper with the 190. From memory the 180 is definitely easy to get up off the fairway but because the 190 seems to be so good and forgiving with low face strikes it’s a wash for me. I do think with the lower profile and seemingly longer (toe to heel) 180 presents a more confidence inspiring look at set up off the deck. Opposite off the tee peg, with the deep ISH face of the 190 and TS 3 woods deeper face.

I did get a response back from Mizuno USA on the size of the 190 fairways:

The standard ST190 and TS 3wood are both the same cc at 175cc and the 5wood is 152cc.

ST 180 has been nothing but money for me thus far. I found it to be more optimal to me with a 1* increase to 16*. I love the blue crown and black club face, lots of contrast makes for easy alignment.

Bought a 15* off ebay.... 3w is a never ending search for me, just can't find one I really like... There are a lot of things about the St180 that I look for in a 3w so hoping it does the job.

Bought a 15* off ebay.... 3w is a never ending search for me, just can't find one I really like... There are a lot of things about the St180 that I look for in a 3w so hoping it does the job.

I recently bought a GT180 driver head off the Bay, and before it even arrived decided I needed a ST180 to do a head to head comparison, so got one of those from a generous member on here. After playing 4 rounds (2 with each), decided they are so good I'd be stupid to not try the 3 wood.

I have a GT180 3 on a FedEx truck headed my way right now, but just today decided if it worked for the Driver test, I better get a ST180 head on it's way to test, so currently stalking one on the Bay. The GT is coming with the Tensei White 70 and the ST I'll be buying within a few hours comes with the Blue 60, so will have a few options to swap between the 2 heads. Both drivers I bought were "head only" so bought an Even Flow White for them, so can only currently test both heads with the same shaft, but what can I say, it's working so far!!

With the prices these things are going for right now, I basically have 2 driver options and will soon have 2 3wd options for well under the cost of a "current" driver, and can/probably will find an Even Flow White 80 to throw in the 3wds!

Hope no one decides to post how good the hybrids are, or there goes another experiment!

(and I actually kind of like the Blue, and don't find either driver obnoxiously loud as many report)

I am glad I went 190 over 180 driver, though I am sure the 180 performs, I just really prefer the sound, look, and feel of the 190. I tested the 180 3w and didn't mind the blue as much, maybe because it is on a much smaller scale, but I am more interested in the face and sole design. It seems to be just what I am looking for, much like a Ping but with more pop.

I want to try the CLK hybrid, it looks sweet... but I am super impressed with my 816 right now... a lot of good hybrids out there right now.

That's what we're after!  Picking up an ST180 3 wood myself even tho it's a couple years old.
