How close does $taper play to C-taper?

Recommended Posts

Update No. 2, as I just started gaming these.

Another round today with the $Taper. These fit me well. Yes, it is modeled off the KBS Tour profile — Kim Braly says every iron shaft they make is — but it is a noticeably different performance for me. I hit the Tours high with a ton of spin. Like the feel but I spin them a lot.

The $ Taper is mid-launch but more of a boring trajectory — flies more like a PX Rifle for me but way smoother at impact — and it is spinning less and going straight. Still stops on a dime. Does not pull back, which I do not want anyway, more like a dart that stops where you hit it. They are really a nice shaft. They are expensive as aftermarket shafts, but as a no-charge upgrade the $Taper is hard to resist. I like them better than the Tour or the CTaper. I am playing the 120g version and the same weight in the CTaper did not work for me. Felt like too much work. That weight is perfect in these. Feels like a lighter shaft but it’s not. Plenty of power. Very much does feel like it is a blend of the Tour and CTaper.

Been playing the Tour 120s for years. Love them, but would like a more piercing flight, but have to accommodate by aging frame. Anybody have experience in going form Tour 120 Stiff to S Taper R+?

I've been in ctapers for close to a year. I bought a set of stapers recently. I only have the staper in one of my 4irons rt now. Waiting until after my last tournament to shaft the 7iron. But...

The staper is a bit more lively but not by much. The staper feels like the flex is in the middle of the shaft. The handle feels softer in transition than the ctaper. The ctaper feels sturdy all the way through the shaft. Based on 4iron testing alone, the staper appears unlikely to work for me. The staper is a mid launch profile shaft. I had a hard time with ctaper lite and am.finding the same general inconsistency in contact with the staper that I did with the lite. Ctaper is low launch. Seems the best fit for me. Based on titleist's shaft chart, the ctaper is closer to dynamic gold s and x than staper.

Fyi - if you have access to a taylormade fitting studio then you can test ctaper, staper, etc in the same head.

I soft stepped some 120 $taper. I like the weight of the 120 and didn’t think I would notice anything going that route instead of buying another set of $.

Launch and spin went up from where I was with the straight stiff. I love this shaft. Came from the modus 120s and prefer these.

Modus is super soft in the butt. Staper is firmer, but not as firm as the ctaper in the butt section

$-Taper plays about $18 north of C-Taper. ($-Taper = $55 / C-Taper = $37)

Basically, $-Taper launches higher and spins a bit more.

Weights are equal in the two models for the same flexes.

Played Tours first in X then C-Taper in S+, the tour spun to much but felt great the C-Tapers launched low and spun low which was great for my game but I lost a little feel. the $-Tapers came out and they had a similar feel to the tours launched higher than the C-Tapers which helped but didn't balloon on me which is why I got away from the tours. Best of both worlds in my opinion. currently playing $-taper X

What’s your say 150 and 175 club? I’ve played DG TIX100 for years, but am looking to pick up a set of i210’s to tinker with. Looking at the $ taper in X because it’s available now to me. Looking for your feedback between the 2 shafts. Thanks

150 is my 9 iron and 175 is my 7 iron.  I don't have much experience with DG X100's but I have played S300 in the past due to thats what came in my irons earlier on.  I love the feel and balance of KBS I guess.  As mentioned I loved the Tours but they spun on me the C-Tapers felt great and brought down the spin but the $-Tapers just felt more similar to the Tours but didn't spin up on me

if i'm playing C-Taper S, should i move to $-Taper S or S+?

Depends on what you are looking for in terms of launch/spin/weight. But if just conceptually, I would say S+ in the $-taper. I currently play S+ in Ctaper and came from $-taper x flex.
