Which irons won't you play and why?

Not sure I would use Ping's even if I was on staff. I've never liked the look of mostly anything but Titleist, which is the only irons I've played. Mizuno or Srixon are the only others I could ever see myself using for irons.

Mizuno. If a company that large can't do a better job than they do for lefties I don't need them.

I can’t play shovels with plastic, colored inserts or cavity plugs. I have struggled to come around to Ping my whole life and am finally getting a set this year. But they have kind of come around to me, actually. Cleaner lines and simpler aesthetics than ever. Also cannot hit a Ping driver for some reason. Can’t use the Callaway wedges. Don’t like any hybrids. Can’t hit irons without steel shafts. Don’t like black club heads. Don’t like green or other colored balls. Can’t hit x100 shafts and some of the 2x4 shafts out there today, though I do like s300’s. Will not buy a new driver. I wait a couple years so I can also make rent.

You guys aren’t playing PING irons because there is a notch in the hosel that isn’t visible at address? Seriously?

Edit: and you don’t like the look at address? Have you ever held an S55 or iBlade down and looked at it?

Taylormade for me. Had a terrible experience with a rep that treated me and my wife horribly. Won’t play pxg because I honestly think they are ugly.

PXG. Way to much $ for performance I can get elsewhere for less.

Titleist. Forging feels like a rock compared to Mizuno.

Absolutely. Which other manufacturers remove a large asymmetrical chunk of the hosel from their irons? And you don't have to see it at address for it to be an issue for some. Knowing it's there can still affect your confidence in what you're looking down at.

PXG as I think they are very ugly and I don’t believe the performance is any better than other OEMs at way less cost.

The only major OEM irons I have never owned and played are Callaway. Never took any interest to their irons although the 2018 X Forged are very nice.

Mainly stick to Titleist with some Mizuno and Cobra mixed in there over the years.

Any iron(s) with stick-on badges, bridges, bolts, elastomer fillings or laughably strong lofts. The results of any iron shot, whether forged or cast, should reflect solely the quality with which it was stuck... nothing more nothing less.

I respect your opinion on what you prefer to play, but many find enjoyment with laughably strong lofts and loads of forgiveness and decent results on less than quality strikes.

As for me, give me any 14 clubs and let me play, no discrimination here.

i just can't play anything that has crazy offset in the longer irons. Its not about anything but the looks, i just can't stand it... the Ping G line , Callaway Rogue and the Titleist AP1's come to mind as the worst in that category.

I stick to Titleist, Mizuno, or Callaway pretty much my entire golfing life. Honestly I am biased against TM. The mid-2000s ruined that brand for me. Multiple driver and iron releases within each year, each claiming better performance. I grew to respect Titleist's every 2 year release cycle, and Mizuno's if it aint broke don't fix it philosophy. Callaway I feel is generally on the technological leading edge, without the over the top marketing of TM. Callaway customer service is absolutely second to none in this industry. All pro line clubs offer outstanding quality, it's the little things listed above that separte them for me. I will say right now Srixon has an absolutely killer lineup, top to bottom. They have really upped their game in the past few years in my opinion.

That said, any kind of thick topline and full offset will turn up my nose, regardless of the brand.

I have played most brands and have some ideas.  One I don't like anything with little bounce, heavy swingweight (over D3) and long hozel.

Other than that I am a Ping guy but I even tried the Cobra SLI this winter.

Cannot own Callaway, I hate their logo ( the font alone does it) plus owned the S2H2 which was the biggest piece of garbage. Like Ping but do not like how they weight them. Never had interest in Nike, they made shoes, sounds stupid when you consider they have some nice gear. Avoided Titleist for long time, but really like their stuff. Never been hot on Mizuno irons, but love & carry their MP metals and could easily bag the 900's. I would quit golf before playing PXG. Have yet to go carbon fiber on driver and hope I never do (fat chance though).Stuff reminds me of Civic tweakers ruining a perfect Si with their silliness. Have had great luck with Cobra, RAM, Hogan and TM. TM has done some choice work at times. The R510 is still great, the RAC TP's were great irons but they almost destroyed the brand there for a while with 'that guy' running it. But yeah, I'm picky.
