Apex 19 hybrid

I didn't think it could be done but I think this thing might kick the 818h2 out of the bag. I love how adjustable the 818 is but it was never incredible performance wise, but it feels solid like an iron and gave me a pretty good flight when I turned it down to 18*. I primarily use hybrid off the tee as I just don't find myself in situations where I'm going for greens 220+ out. Too much trouble or the slow people in front won't get off the damn green.

I demo'ed the Apex 19 in 20* vs the 818 turned up to 19.75* and I couldn't believe how much ball speed Apex was getting. Normally I'm a 143 ball speed with 4200 spin or something on my hybrid but Apex was seeing 148mph ball speed with less spin than 818 was on that monitor. With my TP5X I think I could crack 150.

All in all, 818 was carrying around 225-30-ish rolling to 240 but Apex was getting out to 250 with about 240 carry. Topped out at 253. Jailbreak is legit it seems.

New apex hybrid hasn't been as well received as I thought it would. Even on tour it seems everyone stuck to the previous model. The added MOI is a plus. Its hard for me to get excited for ball speed increases in hybrid. Ive always wanted to hit a number in that spot in the bag, not go far. Especially if it creeps up to my fairway wood and too far past my 4-iron. Ive also heard it feels quite tingy/metallic compared to the solid beloved feel of the previous model.

I also applaud Cally for offering to bend the apex hybrids flat if you so desire and they are already relatively flat to begin with!

Yeah. New Apex is legit.

My guess would be they stuck with it because it's predictable and dialed in. They don't likely use it like I would... they probably want to hit exact distances to reach tough par 5 greens. It's definitely leaving a little large of a gap between the 4i but I'm okay with it because my 4i is usually the longest club I ever find myself hitting into par 5 greens if I am even able to go for it.

Once I lower my HC there is 1 course by me that has 7000 yard tees in which I will probably need the hybrid, and then some.

A lot of ppl. have trouble 'hooking' hybrids. There are 3 out there that seem to help with this problem. Titleist 818, Apex19 and Ping G410. All great looking and feeling hybrids!

Honestly might not even need a 3w if the 20* was going 250 in the air for me. 18* I'd expect to carry around 258 and roll to 265 or so. I'd have to carry a 3+ probably but at that point... I won't even need a driver basically.

Then the issue becomes the yeeewjjj gap I'd be leaving between the 18* Apex and my 4i (around a 210 carry, roll to 215 or so). Being that long at the top of the bag means I might be forced to carry a traditional 3i or even an like an Apex in 22* that can carry around 225 and drop a wedge, which I don't really want to do.

In all honesty if I truly got the 18* to carry 255+, then I'd just drop the 3w and play a high launch 5w to get me the ~225 carry range, then the 4i gaps nicely. I rarely need to hit into a par 5 that's longer than 250. Heck... rarely ever longer than 225.

Apex 19 knocked out my trust XR Pro's that have been with me for five years I believe.

Apex was straighter, slightly longer and significantly more forgiving. All that and 'no left!'

I have one in 20* with the stock 6.0 shaft and so far really like it. I couldn't hit the older Apex hybrid well but really dug the XR Pro. The '19 Apex is longer and more forgiving that the XR 16.

Yeah what was weird was how nice the stock shaft was. Normally I really make most S flex shafts feel a bit loose (normally use X) but the stock S was very nice feeling and not much different from my X flex Aldila Tour Blue. Even the slightly lighter weight didn't seem to be an issue. Would be a tough call buying bone stock with a glued hosel. I don't have a puller so if I did want a change, I'm looking at a fee to get the head pulled.

IMo they look pretty similar, with basically the biggest difference other than color scheme is the Apex toe is higher, making it seem more iron-like. Overall, I felt it wasn't extremely noticeable. I also thought the Apex felt a little "better", which I attribute mainly to sound.

I'm hitting the 818h2 pretty good though so I'm not ready to switch. Unless I start having issues or suddenly find I need an extra 10 yards out of it, I'll likely save my $$ for more lessons.

I agree. I went to a 5 wood at start of season thinking that would solve my hybrid illness. Then I hit the 3 HY 20* and it sets up so incredibly perfect. I am a 2 handicap and have fought with hybrids but these fly the distances w/ out hot spots and are workable. I ordered the 2 HY 18* as well. I'm going drop a wedge to 54/60 and just carry three wedges. I may not hit the 3w/2HY/3HY every round however those gaps are where my opportunities are - my wedge play is stronger than the top of the bag. If I see big numbers on the card its a forced tee ball on a moderate length hole where a runner 240 hybrid would be perfect. Or a long par 3/4 where wind has me trying to juice a long iron, etc. I am in mid-atlantic and the course have been wet for years and the wind is always howling.

Last comment - my Driver SS is about 105 and I have a slower/deliberate transition and these stock shafts fit perfect. Nice mid flex with enough control in the butt and head. Highly recommend.
