Epic flash sub zero fairway = best fairway of 2019????

Went to a fairway wood fitting yesterday.  Going into it I was set on the Ping G410 lst or the Titleist ts3.  I ended testing those two heads along with the cobra f9 tour, epic flash sub zero, mizuno st190, and tm m5.

My driver SS is 114-117 so I tested all heads using 70-85 gram shafts in xflex.  After about 10-15 swings on each head and shaft combo there was a clear winner.  The epic flash sub zero.

Highest club head speed went with the f9 but spin, carry, and especially dispersion the epic flash was head above better than the rest.  The feel of the club when flushed is good as it gets.  Average carry with the other heads were between 248-255.  With the epic flash, average carry was 262.  Most importantly, my dispersion with the epic flash was what won me over.

At at the end of the day, I ended up ordering the epic flash sub zero with the Hzrdus smoke 6.5 80 gram shaft.  To be totally honest, I really didn’t even consider the epic flash before my fitting.  Since I’m a ping fanboy, I was really set on the g410 lst.  While that was a solid performer, the performance of the epic flash in comparison with all the other woods were clearly superior. The mizuno st190 and cobra f9 tour were also great performers but are distant 2nd and 3rd place to the epic flash sub zero.

In conclusion, I can’t wait to get this on the course. It’s easy to hit off the deck and is an absolute cannon off the tee.  For me, this will be my safety net when I’m having off days with the driver.  What are your guys’ experience with the epic flash sub zero fairway?

It’s definitely a bomber. I didn’t think anything would kick the rogue SZ out the bag but this did

I wasn’t a big fan of the rogue sz which is probably why I had low expectations with the epic flash sz.  Surprised the hell out of me.

I found that the feel/sound/dispersion was worse compared to my Rogue SZ 15*. I didn't test for distance as it's not what I'm after. Admittedly the shafts weren't the same but.....

I went in to try out Epic Flash because I had a Rogue and wanted a little adjust-ability. I was going to find the standard or sub zero and take advantage of the %50 trade in for the Rogue. I hit the standard a little more consistently with sub zero spinning too little. I then tried the TS3 and hit that just as far as the sub zero but in a tighter dispersion than the standard. Both had the smoke 70g 6.5 flex shaft. So the shop gave me a little more for my trade on the Rogue and left with the TS3. I would have been very happy with either Epic Flash but the TS3 matches the driver I just bought.

Would concur (sort of). Last year got fit and Rogue SZ was so much better than everything else. Only reason I didn't pull the trig was I just don't like glued hosels. With the SZ it's a touch flat and I like to put really flat heads into a draw setting if possible, Which means I'm almost definitely getting a Flash SZ head very soon. My LTD head is a winner for sure but it feels like poo on off center hits and the sound is rather tinny and hollow.

I don't use FW's off the deck much and I currently hate my driver so I can see myself just simply gaming a bomber 3w most of the year and leaving the driver at home. Besides, I can hit my current LTD 270 on firm fairways which means 9/10 a solid strike puts me within a 9i or PW on most courses I play, even if they are softer and roll out is minimal.

i hit the TS3, M5/M6 and the PING G410 --- i ended up going with the 3+ flash SZ 3+ wood lofted up for off the tee, and the standard flash 5w for going into long par 5's or shorter par 4's. they've been IDEAL already this season. i've hit quite a few greens in two that i wouldn't have been close to last year simply bc i have more confidence - from 282, 274, and 268 (i know b/c i worte them down -- i was super impressed)

I never thought we'd get the #3 UDI- pro white 90tx out of its spot in the bag. What shaft length are you playing your 5-wood at? Check the fonts in your signature, kinda wonky.

Good luck in those tournaments!

Thanks man - I know...but I needed a bit higher and soft into 5s. Dropping my 64* allowed me to put a stronger 3w into the bag and drop the 5w in there.

Playing the 5w -1/2" in length to help with control. Playing the 90tx a total of 1.75" tipping

I have not hit the Flash fw yet, but not sure anything can be as straight as the F9 Tour 3w. I had it on course for first time yesterday, and just hit it dead straight shot after shot. Playing again today, excited to hit this more.

I have a lower swing speed usually between 95-100mph with my driver. I tested this fairway the other day and found it was really flat feeling almost dead off the face. My numbers were not that far off from what I usually see but I couldn't get over the feel. Has anyone else experienced this or did I end up testing with a dud?

Found almost what OP found with epic flash. I had the rogue 13.5 with 82 gram 125msi tx tour rogue.

Hit a 13.5 flash with 6.5 haz smoke and altho shaft wasn't as good the head had tighter dispersion undoubtedly with heel misses being surprisingly straight and controlled. Very happy with the flatter lie and ability to go upright. Only con is feel, dead duddy feel compared to excellent rogue feel but not bad and it performs.

The 410 lst fw is real, but lagging behind in availability. Definitely a head-scratcher with PING's 410 line launch. Anyhow, I've hit it and it's a cannon, as well. You can check out the reviews online with the boys at TXG:

Completely agree, I did a fitting yesterday and expected to love the Flash, but I just couldn’t get a feeling for where the head was and where the ball was on the face, no matter what shaft I tried. I had the same experience last year with the Rogue when I tested drivers, I am still just not a Callaway guy, I guess.

I put up better numbers with both the M5 and TS3, going TS3 because I was much more consistent with it.

Does it sit as upright as advertised? Any idea lowest lie angle setting on f9 tour? I need 55.5-56.5 range on a 3w

i found the G410 to be too long for a normal 3w 'fit' in the bag. the feel and dispersion was terrific on it tho. i also can't get over the PING sounds in their woods - and i don't know why.

Not sure bud. Never hit one. I play a Callaway Alpha 815, speeder 656 stiff, tipped 1/2". With weight forward it's as long as Epic Sz flash for me
