Favorite songs of each decade 60's,70's,80's,and 90's

First a tip of the golf visor to Bobcat for starting the first recent song appreciation thread. Then jackbauer threw up the 80's tunes thread. Both of these threads have been quite well received indeed. I got to thinking this afternoon what else could we do regarding music hits through numerous decades. I give you this.

I ask you pick only 2 (i know near impossible) of your most favorites of each decade from 1960-2000.

You can post a couple favorites from only one specific decade, two decades, or fill in pair for all four decades. All contributions of course are welcomed/encouraged.

I think the task of having to narrow it down to just two Huge favorites will be a tough challenge.

The results should be all over the place and I find that interesting. I was thinking that a few of you might like this idea I had today so I am rolling this sucker out. I might as well add to my wrx workload. New format (ugh) be damned.

For me, the 60's have to include the Beatles. Pick any one of about 50. I chose the one that started it all for me.

 

 

 

Man this is tough to pick only 2. My picks could change 10 times a day based on my mood. I went with the Beach Boys for number 2.

Beach Boys are strong, but GV is overrated. I would have gone with this. All of Brian Wilson’s mad skills, but in a much cleaner package. (Of course, YMMV.)

For some reason, GV always felt a little too clunky and forced, like they were trying to be too mod. But their overall body of work definitely flows. B)

60's

Monkey Man, maybe because it was about something i could understand when I was young. I knew what a monkey was, didn't know what Brown Sugar was.

Has any song spoken to a generation more than this one?

70's

Really, just about any song by this guy, but I always go back to this one.

Same for this guy.

80's

Changed the idea of college radio, and radio free Europe.

The 1% has been in the news recently, and this song cemented this 80's band as a game changer.
