Any Apple Watch users ?

Recommended Posts

Just noticed that this took place... Seems they planning to make the app available on Apple watch going forward.... Attempted to make the transition on last evening. Not smooth or intuitive, but I eventually got it done. On the plus side, the subpar name IMO will go away with the acquisition... Fun Golf becomes Tag Heuer Golf seems more serious if nothing else.

Tried to use the TAG Heuer app tonight. Couldn’t start the round from my watch. Had to get the phone out of the bag. And then once I got it going on the phone it wouldn’t communicate with my watch at all. I don’t really have the patience to keep trying this one.

Golfshot is usable but pretty slow to update the distances and I also have to have my phone to start rounds. I also think it’s interface switching between holes is really difficult to use.

None of the phone/watch apps have been as good as my garmin Approach x10 for what I need. Especially since a lot of these apps cost $40/year. I was just hoping for a solution for the Apple watch so I didn’t have remember to charge and pack the garmin for every round.

I just ran across a post on reddit about TrackMyGolf and it’s description in the App Store claims to do everything I’m looking for. I will post a review once I’ve had a chance to use it.

Tag acquired Fun Golf, they are likely going through the growing pains as this acquisition was less than a week ago. I use Fun Golf and it works well. I installed Tag but have not tried to use it on the course yet. I will this week and report back, but a lot of my details were picked up by the Tag app in term of stats and such after a bit of fumbling around... I think they'll fix it, but good luck in your search Hole 19 is well regarded, and worth a look IMO.

EDIT: Like you I am not able to get the watch to see that I have downloaded course maps. I suspect this is because they are not granting current users of Fun Golf licensed access to their version of Tag Golf. IMO this is a huge mistake, because by not doing so the are letting the folks/customers who made Fun Golf a success sample the software waters again...

I did read that once the current Fun Golf subscription lapses, no renewal will be offered for Fun Golf. What wasn't clear was if they will charge those folks their $20 upgrade rate or the $40 full price...

HUGE MISTAKE, IMO.

I have an update about TrackMyGolf app for my Apple Watch 4. This was absolutely the winner for me for a few reasons, and my search is now over:

1. You can start rounds with watch, don’t need the phone on you (I carry so phone was zipped up in the bag and never touched it)

2. Very clean F/M/B display that was easy to read. And not that it matters but the colors/font made it look a lot nicer

3. Distances loaded without noticeable lag. I also have a garmin and I would say it was just as accurate and loaded just as fast as the garmin golf watch.

4. Scorecard was very easy to use, tracks putts with a nice interface

5. Menus were easy to navigate

6. Distances matched my playing partner’s rangefinder to 1-2 yds each time we checked

Cons:

1. When I ended the rounds it automatically saves them and then tells you to check the app on the phone to see the scorecard. An end of round summary directly on the watch would be nice

2. I didn’t check any hazards this weekend as it’s my home course and there aren’t many that I don’t already know, but I don’t believe the watch app has a map you can drag to see distances. I thought this was the best feature of the FunGolf app

No differences with battery life between the three programs. I would rate them:

1. TrackMyGolf

2. FunGolf (which is discontinued)

3. GolfShot+

DQ: TAG Heuer - did not work

I paid $18.99 for the whole year for TrackMyGolf. The monthly subscription gives you a 1 week free trial for anyone that wants to test it out. I can’t speak for the actual phone interface of any of these apps, I walk and that’s something I would never use.

Any new stuff with the Apple Watch stuff?

my attempt at using the search function didn’t find much. I just got an AW5 & hoping to use it with my Golfshot plus like I’ve been using on my phone.

Any issues with Golfshot plus & AW5?

any issues with suntan lotion staining the sport bands?

any issues with Apple Watch battery & a round of golf?

thanks in advance

I’ve used Hole19 for many years now. And as I’ve tried others, none offer the best combination of all things I look for, for free.

every once in a while I get some issue when the app has an update but that’s rare.

move not tried the premium version but I can see that you can use shot tracking and also track sand/penalties ( free still gives you fairway, putts, total score tracking and auto gir calculations) I’m not accurate to 1-3 yds so a few us distance won’t matter. I set watch to dnd and leave phone in bag, use laser to shoot hazards if needed, but typically I’ll pull a laser less than once a round.

battery life is no problem on a series 2, I’ve used for 36 holes and still have plenty of juice for the rest of the day. No problems with sunscreen stains and the included sport band.

I second using Hole 19. After trying many 3 years ago, I thought 19 was the best and have been using it ever since. Not sure that I have tied Track my Golf however, will have to take a look.

I have an AW5 as well. Only golf app is Arccos, jury is still out. I like it better than the phone in my pocket. But it still misses shots, putts, etc. I also use the Apple Workout app to capture my calories walking and on the range.
