I've never been a huge fan of the group stage format, especially since only one guy advances from each group. I miss when it was more of a defined bracket. I'd even throw everyone in stroke play for 36 holes and then do double elimination singles play or something.

I'm lukewarm on this tournament as well despite its WGC status. Every now and then, there are some great late round head-to-head matches. But just as often there's a match where someone gets crushed or it's a star against a much less recognized player. Unfortunately, there haven't been enough Mickelson-Woods 2005 Doral like matches.

 

Group 12 seems like the most up for grabs (or worst for the seeded player).

 

Too bad Reed, Sergio, Bubba, and Ian Poulter couldn't have been in 1 group...
