Weekend Golf Trip Suggestions (near Central Illinois)

Every year me and some friends go on a golf trip, so far we've hit...

STL - Ann Briar, Missouri Bluffs

Galena - Eagle Ridge

Quad Cities - TPC Deere, Fyre Lake

Indy - Purgatory, The Fort, Prairie View

Peoria - Weaver Ridge, Metamora Fields

Pana - Oak Terrace

 

Looking for suggestions and/or info for this year.

 

*Nothing super pricey & nothing super far away. Was possibly thinking Springfield IL, the Ozarks area, or southern Wisconsin. Thanks.

Sand Valley is a bit further north but if you’re willing to drive to Southern Wisconsin, it’s not too bad of a drive. Lake Ganeva, Wis has a few nice course. Couple nice tracks in Eastern Iowa near Iowa City in the BlueTop Ridge, the Amana Colonies and Finkbine(U of Iowa).

Lake Geneva [Abbey Springs, Geneva National (3), Grand Geneva (2), Hawks View] can be combined with Madison, WI (University Ridge).

Southern Indiana: French Lick (2), Otter Creek, Chariot's Run, Sultans Run.

Lafayette, IN: Birck Boilermaker (2), Trophy Club, Rock Hollow.

Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana: Blackthorn, Warren, Harbor Shores, Gull Lake, Angels Crossing.

Iowa: Spirit Hollow, Preserve on Rathburn Lake, Bos Landen Blue Top, Finkbine.

Peoria/Bloomington/Normal/Urbana: Lick Creek, Prairie Vista, Den at Fox Creek, Stone Creek

Wisconsin Dells: Northern Bay Castle, Trappers Turn, Wild Rock

Any reason you aren't hitting Chicago? You can do 10 trips to Chicago and not play all of the good courses. Also, I 2nd driving a little further and going to Sand Valley/Lawsonia. Can't be much further if not closer than the Ozarks.

I feel like Chicago could get pricey in a hurry...

Not necessarily. Looking at your past locations it seems the most important aspect of the trip is golf, not nightlife and other activities. I'd go nowhere near the city, there is no golf there anyway. You could go to any suburb and have handfuls of courses to play. If I were making a trip and not playing any of the big name/expensive courses you could stay west and play Bowes Creek, Highlands of Elgin, and Blackstone. A little further south and more expensive you can do Cantigny, Cog Hill (4 courses there), Mistwood, Orchard Valley, Prairie Landing etc. If you have interest in going out to dinner or shopping you are still surrounded by it if need be (oakbrook, naperville, St. Charles etc.)

 

I am from St. Louis and live in Chicago with family in Indy so I have played all but Oak Terrace and Frye Lake of the courses you mentioned. All of the courses I mentioned in Chicago area would fit right in with those. Some better some worse. Good luck in your search!
