I was fitted for a driver mid last year, was not convinced everything was working as it should. So I did a $50 PGA Superstore van fitting with my driver. I had a Cobra F8+ with an Aldila Rogue Silver 70 stiff shaft played at 44.5" long. I wanted to see if any significant difference with a Cobra F9 head, and any other shafts, either lighter or less stiff.

Here was the summary

- I had the correct shaft for me, and weight. Worse results with lighter shafts and regular stiffness.

- My club was playing at D1, my last fitter forgot to account for the shorter shaft length. The same shaft in the heavier weighted F9 head felt so much better (they did not have any F8 head weights to try). More head heavy, I could feel the head better and felt a bit more kick. Small change but very good difference in results.

 

My driver the way I walked in (weight forward to reduce spin, at 9.5 degrees)

SwingSpeed = 93.9

Ball Speed = 132.3

Backspin = 2033

Carry = 227

Total = 253

 

The F9 head (heavier head weights to account for the 1/2" shorter shaft) with my shaft

SwingSpeed = 94.8

Ball Speed = 136.5

Backspin = 2253

Carry = 236

Total = 259

While my swing speed should show this shaft to be too much for me - it works (compared to the Evenflow TS Blue and some other Fujikura)

I'll assume that the F9 head did not contribute too much to the difference. I am going to get a heavier head weight for my F8+. Not worth +$400 ish just to get the F9 head

Now to work on improving my swing speed.

Amazing how a few similar shafts or weight changes can produce pretty significant differences.

I'm the same way. Maybe 5 mph faster. But always play a heavy driver. And shaft. Diamana d+ Ltd 70 stiff. Playing 6 grams heavier in the head. With great results.
