G700 long term reviews

I am still playing mine. I have played a few rounds with rental clubs of 2019 offerings(F9 & M6 sets) and neither of them even came close to

knocking my G700s out of the bag.

At one point I explored the possibility of doing a combo with the i210's or i500's, but neither offered me any performance benefits over my G700s. And the i500s even spun less for me.

I moved from the G-25's to these, I was a little skeptical at first due to the numbers I was getting while getting fit, this is my 1 year plus views:

1) Seemed too light , I weighted these versus my G-25's and IDENTICAL swing weight.

2) Once I learned to swing these (first set of graphite shafted irons I've owned) I had to re-learn my yardages, easy 1/2 club longer, my average 8 iron is now 150 yards, once I hit that 8 iron 10 yards over a laser measured 150 yard pin, yes I was using a Kirkland 4 piece golfball .

3) You can have any flight you want as long as it is high and straight, again, had to adjust, used to medium height, semi-fade

4) Easy to hit.

The G700 8 iron is 2* stronger than the G25 8 iron so that is part of the difference.

How are the G700 long-irons at your swing speed (I am similar)? The G700 5 iron is 23* and the 4 iron is 20*, which would be the 4 iron and 3 iron lofts in the G25s. Realistically, I don't think I could play those lofts effectively in the G25s. I know the G700s with the hollow-body, thin steel face are supposed to launch higher, etc, etc, etc. But would you say they are comparable to hitting a hybrid or is it still "long-iron like" (CG still relatively close to the face and need serious clubhead speed to keep the ball in the air)?

The log irons are definitely easier to get airborne, my natural shot pattern is in the low side, with these I actually get them airborne, I have to say my 5 iron (which is the longest iron in the bag) flight is pretty close to my 4 hybrid flight. When I got them I hit shots with G-25 and G-700, the flight was higher and longer with the G700’s, might have to take a 7 G-25 and an 8 G-700 and compare.

The thing I do like is that I know when I hit a pitching wedge or a similar short club into the green, it will go high, bounce and stop, it won’t back up an unknow distance or bounce and stop like the G-25’s.

The only thing is the sound, that took me a while to get used to.

Thanks. I've been thinking about the G700 5-iron (possibly bent to 22*) as a replacement for a 4-hybrid. I've also wondered how this club would compare to the G/G400 Crossovers at the same loft (many people mention that these are not easy to hit, and the G410 Crossovers look like they have even less help). I like how the G700 5-iron retains a fair amount of offset (more than the Crossovers), but worry I don't have enough speed to use it effectively off of anything but a perfect stance / lie (hybrid much easier to just hack the ball out of the rough with).

I did try the G400 4 crossover in the PGA Superstore simulator, could not get it up with a fistful of viagra, the G400 hybrid was OK.

How would you compare the G700 5 iron to a similarly lofted (22*-23*) hybrid or the crossovers if you've hit them? I commented more above but basically wondering if this design is really much much easier to hit or if it's still a long (or low lofted) iron. For reference, I probably wouldn't try to play the G400/G410 5 iron on the course (I have a 25* G25 5-iron and I think this is about as low of a loft that I can play well on the course without more help from the head design or possibly a lighter/softer shaft).

I had them. They didn't overly blow me away. I had ordered 700 long irons and i500 short and they sent all 700s. I decided to play with them anyway. I really liked the 4-5 but the 6-P seemed spinney and really high launch (which is exactly what they are supposed to do). I ended up going a different direction this year, and while I lost a bit of forgiveness for sure, the thinner soles seem to be working better with my shallow swing a lot better.

I would say they would play similar in length. I’m not a fan of hybrids generally speaking but haven’t hit the new G410 which I heard are not hook machines. I hit the iron straighter than the hybrid all day every day.
