Anyone tried the single length Cobra Jr. clubs?

Just curious if anyone has tired the cobra Jr length single iron set and if so, how was the quality? I play SL irons and love them, and it just seems like a good idea to simplify the game at this age. My son is 10 at 59", would love to hear if anyone has any experience with the set.

I've talked to someone who had a set for his son. He said he regrets getting rid of them. His son had trouble with the height on the 5 and 6 but hit them solid. Now with a standard set he just isn't as consistent. Since hes stronger and a year older now, hes going to try the OL again.

He said the consistency was great and he thought it helped him learn a good swing, by using the same length over and over.

I would avoid single length irons especially for kids. You far better off using different lengths for a lot reasons. The difference in length helps keep constant gaps.

The other issue is if you need to switch irons later on your going to have a hard time to adjusting there is no guanrantee cobra will keep selling single length irons.

Thanks Tiger but I have been playing SL irons for over 3 years along with others I know, and unless you have other real world experiences with them (other then trying them for a month or at the range), your comment on gaps is without merit. The loft on the golf club has more to do with distance than the length of the club, especially when we are only talking about 1/2" or less length difference on VL sets.

There is a reason single length is a niche market. No other major OEM makes them other then Cobra so that is issue if down the road you need to change clubs or they no longer exist. With a junior unless the single length actually addresses an issue why would anyone actually go down this path. The key to being more consistent is practicing hitting your irons. It makes no sense to fix a flaw with single irons.

You do realize that single length irons have been around since the 1930's. The Cobra SL irons are the first and only to be marketed as SL by any company. Any manufacture can custom build a set of SL irons.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Yes I realize there been around a long time and that why I say it is a niche market. I know anyone manufacture can build a custom set but the bigger question you have ask is why would you want them to.

A lot the popularity is because you see Bryson Dechambeau playing them. I am sure they work fine for him but he has a custom tour van to customize them. To me it just not worth the effort to tinker with them so they work.

I personally tried the SL irons in a demo. I didn't like the fact the short irons were so long. My biggest issue with them though is you have do a lost customizing with them or tweaking to get them to work properly for the player. Some people really love that about them.

After playing around with customizing stuff I came to the conclusion your better off just learning to hit what is readily available. With kids it hard to argue against buying a US Kids TS3 set for them or at least the irons anyways. So easy to keep a well fit iron in there hand since all you need to do is measure.

My son just turned 11 and is 60" tall and will be probably be at 63" next year at the rate he has been growing. This set will fit him for a couple of years. We did the US Kids clubs since he was 7, they make a nice product.

I personally don't think it will be an issue to go back to VL if that ever happens. There is not a special swing for SL, so going back to VL is not really a huge change and if you think it is, then that is probably a good argument to play SL. I can tell you that based his feedback (I have not told him they are SL or made a big deal about it although he obviously noticed), he has stated he really likes having the same set up. Routine, distance from ball, ball position etc, are difficult for any player to master a consistent process, much less an 11 year old JR player with the attention span of a nat. We have only been hitting them in to a net thus far due to the weather here, but he really likes them so far and he is getting really consistent on center face contact across all of the irons. We should be getting to the range in the next week or so we will get a chance to see how that goes.

Next up, Armlock putter LOL.. I even heard Maginnes on the Katrek and Maginnes show today state that he would have any Jr or someone new to the game start putting with an armlock putter due to the stabilization that it brings to the stroke, reducing a ton of practice and learning curve in the putting process.
