Secure your bag with the cart straps

Recommended Posts

I thought ya'll might enjoy this story.

Last year my buddy and I played a quick 9 at the local executive. After 9 holes he insisted that he had to go but I convinced him to play another 3 holes because we could swing through the parking lot after 3 and he could leave then. It would only take us another 25 minutes at the most I told him. We hopped back in the cart to drive up to the t box.

I put the cart in reverse to back out of the spot. As we started to move I looked back and his bag was ever so slightly starting to fall off the back of the cart. I lunged to grab it and inadvertently pushed down on the gas pedal in the process which propelled the cart even quicker and hurried the falling of the clubs. I managed to get a finger on the bag as it jumped out of my grip and disappeared beneath us.

The cart leaped up as it crushed my friends bag and all the precious contents therein. Sparkes caught the corner of my eye as his irons dragged across the pavement. "F**!" he yelled. The cart came to a stop and my buddy jumped out. His eyes were wild with a mixture of sadness and hatred. I immediately felt terrible.

We agreed the first thing we should do is to drive the cart forward and off of the clubs. This only made things worse and once again ground his irons down against the pavement even more. The bag and clubs were helplessly trapped beneath the cart. We rocked the cart back and forth to try and get some leverage to dislodge the contents all the while crunching sounds could be heard. Finally I lifted the cart off the bag just far enough that he was able to pull it out.

Inside he was left with a horror show. The driver shaft, smashed. The hybrid shafts, all broken. Most of the iron shafts were bent and about 3 of the heads were roasted. His bag was irreperably misshapen, torn and shredded. I couldn't believe the condition things were in from such a small accident.

After we picked up the pieces I had a hard time not laughing my a** off mostly becuase these types of things happen to him all the time. He was a pretty good sport about it, all in all but that was the last time him and I played last year. Not sure if he's repaired those clubs yet but I hope so.

And let that be a lesson to ya. Strap your bag in.

I've had my bag fall off the cart a few times but never any damage. Second worst incident was I took the all- leather Tommy Bahama staff bag my wife bought me as a gift to Spanish Bay (Pebble Beach) and the f-ing bag boy forgot to strap it in! Good thing the leather wasn't scratched up! My wife saw the whole thing too! Number one worst incident was my 5 or 6 year old son was riding in the cart on vacation in Hawaii and I made a hairpin turn and he rolled out! Good thing there wasn't a cliff and also the rear tires didn't run over him! Yikes!

Call me twisted but I'd love to see some pics of the carnage.

I wish I could have posted one but it kind of felt like taking a picture of a corpse.

I carry a small bungee cord in my bag. In case the cart strap fails I attach this to the basket and, in three years, have not had even one incident where my bag has fallen. Some of the courses around here have older carts with straps that are loose and frayed. My method negates any concerns.

I do the same thing but with a carabiner and a loop of paracord. Negates the "funny" guys that like to loosen straps too.

The Bagbolt is a bag accessory that keeps your bag from moving on all axis. . This patented device uses interlocking straps combined with a clamp assembly to completely immobolize any bag on any cart. The straps prevent horizontal leaning, twisting and swinging with the clamp assembly compressing the bag into the cart well eliminating any bouncing & making it impossible to detach. You use the Bagbolt instead of the cart provided strap, that provides over 5 times the fastening strength over any other mechanism. You can get more information or order one risk free for less than $25 @ Bagbolt.com. Let me know how you like it... Fred
