No1 50 Grips - installation issues

Just wondering if anyone has had issues with shops installing no1 50 series grips with the butt being able to twist in a way that leads to a lack of trust in the performance. I want it rock solid on the butt end and even having them redone at a second place has not fixed the issues. I waited a couple days before attempting to test them out on the range. This was with 3 wraps of buildup on a modus 130 shaft. Safe to say now that the grips have been ruined and wasted a fair chunk of cash.

 

Would it be easier to go with the 48 series and just blow them onto the shaft bare and play with a smaller size which should be pretty standard? The rubber seems like it should grip the steel pretty well?

 

Or any other advice or issues with these grips?

I’ve installed several sets of these grips. I’ve never had that issue. I assume you bought these from a reputable vendor. There are a lot of fake NO1’s floating around. Wish I could give you some kind of help but I‘ve just never had that issue.

They were from Golf Theory on Rakuten so should be reputable enough. Can you twist the butt end at all on your grips at all? It feels like the solvent/material used at the shops hasn't set properly. Do you just install with double sided tape and solvent?

 

Hopefully its not something to do with the method that is used in the stores here or a difference in solvent brands or similar issues.

Is it moving for sure? Those things are so soft the rubber feels like it moves every time but it’s just the grip deforming.

moving for sure, I had them re-done and even then it didn't work. The middle to lower part set pretty fine but halfway through the swing could feel a slight movement in the butt and after a while there was a twisting at the top in the pattern making it obvious. One club actually set alright when it was redone but none of the others took. Probably a build up of s*** from having it redone stopped it from working properly and the stretching of redoing them?

I played them for years. The butt cap always felt a little loose but never effected the playability. My favorite grip but they just don’t last due to the softness.

Alright thanks guys, probably will try to find something else that works. Don't want to waste too much cash, will go for some tour velvets or corded grips and see how they go

This has happened thousands of times to a lot of people so you’re not alone. You have have to push these on all the way, they almost pop in place. Per No1 they prefer you to use one wrap plus one small wrap for the butt section just to ensure they seat correctly. You’re just not pushing them on all the way.

Mine went on my irons perfect and didn’t twist but I never pushed hard enough with my woods because they twisted all the time. So like the guy above said, make sure you hammer them on. I ended up with velvets on my woods. Love the no1 grips though, soooo soft and tacky

What's the butt diameter on the shaft? Maybe the shop couldn't put them on all the way and didn't realize? It happened to me before when grip got stuck and didn't completely slide on. Using air gun helps with that.

Yup they were using these at a course I worked at regripped a bunch of members sets and they all had this issue. I don’t know what they did to fix the problem.

I had the same problem, as said above it seems that you have to use an extra wrap for the butt section. I believe my fitter used a thicker one the third time he installed the grip, and no’s it doesn’t move anymore. I only have a NO1 50 on a spare 6-iron, as I wanted to test them. Best grip I have ever used, but expensive...

I’ve regripped hundreds of clubs. Wife is an LPGA pro and I just regripped her driver and pitching wedge with NO1 model 48 and both grips are twisting and don’t seem to have set. They twist the entire length of the grip. Logo was underneath the grip whereas I installed it on top. Maybe grip is too big for the shaft? Could use some help on this. The only No1 I’ve use twisted a ton so I pulled it pretty quick.

I just put 50 Pro Series on all my clubs, and haven't had any issues with them.
