How I made (and you can make) Leather Headcovers.

I finally made some. I bought a 5 lb assortment of leather scraps off ebay for $25. It was mostly brown and black, but I also got red, yellow, and blue.

Gave this a go using waterproofed polyester! Not quite perfect but it looks fine in the bag!

Sorry for taking ages to reply not been on here in a while, I just googled camouflage material and then picked one of the suppliers that came up. The material I got is designed for outdoor use and is water resistant as it has a special backing on it which is perfect for making headcovers. If you are in the uk I can send you the link as it is a uk store I got it from.

LoPan, thank you a ton for getting this started hopefully you like my 5 wood cover. Here's my version of LoPan's original idea.

 

They're all lined with faux-fur... which I would never recommend doing. This makes it nearly impossible to do with "normal" sewing machines. I wound up having to take these to a marine sewing shop to finish up because I broke my wife's machine.

 

For the putter, I cut up a beat up old cover I got from my proshop's lost & found for a template.

This thread inspired me to try making some headcovers so I thought I'd give it a bump with a picture or two of my attempts. As a first try I didn't get the fantastic stitching the OP got on his Mario headcover (which is truly fantastic and amazing btw...), but I'm very happy with the results just the same.

So I made another driver cover and it turned out a lot better than my first one.  I used my old pattern but assembled everything different.   I took apart an old Cleveland Classic barrel-type cover to see how to construct it all inside-out like so that all the seams are hidden properly when finished.  Now my liner is seamless like a pro cover.  I used an outer material called "Cordura" in a pixelated camo pattern and a soft fleece for the liner.  The Cordura was pretty tough to work with - I think vinyl or leather would be easier, but it does look pretty "Mil-spec" if I do say so.  I'll post some pics of how I assembled it if anyone is interested.  This is fun!

I don't have a pattern per se -- just a lot of measuring and cutting. I will say that I think it's more intricate than "oven mitt" styles I've made -- I've watched a lot of videos on making bolster pillows and round purses to learn how to sew the barrel style (and made a lot of them to test different ways I've thought of). With a home sewing machine and three layers (fabric, batting/padding, fleece) and the need for the fleece to not have a seam showing and the elastic band, there are a lot of steps and a lot of sewing. And I'm still working out which of two or three ways I've tried in constructing them to be the "best"!

I came across this Canadian military uniform at a local thrift store and thought the fabric thickness and the patchwork would make for an interesting DIY project. Unfortunately, I don't know the jacket's origin, but I thought it was worth upcycling. I removed all the patches, panels, and lining by hand; then created an exact patterning using a Cricut machine. The jacket perfectly made a Driver, Fairway, and Hybrid cover. The jacket's silk lining was also used for the inside of the headcover! I hope this forum enjoys as much as I do!
