NYC Accessible Practice Facilities (Short Range especially)

As we look to our first weekend of back to back 60 degree weather, I am eager to get out of the city and sharpen up my short game a bit. Went to play Bethpage, and my chipping was atrocious, and the turf mats at Chelsea Piers or any of the simulator places are so forgiving I don't really get the help I need.

 

Whether it's in Jersey or NY, I'd love to be able to find a place (public, semi-private, anything accessible for a non-member) where I can access some decent short range facilities. I'm not opposed to paying for access to a facility, but want it to be a decent place to sharpen up my short game.

 

Does anything along those lines exist around here?

Where in the city are you located, and do you have a car?

 

Not sure how far it is from you but Marine Park always had a decent short-game area ( I haven't been there in awhile though ). A large putting green and a separate chipping green. Even a practice bunker, but it was frequently roped-off and closed. The driving range was terrible though.

Galloping hill in Kenilworth nJ. It’s about 30-35 minutes outside the city. You can just walk up to the short game area and putt or chip and they have a range as we if you want to hit some balls. They also have a par 3 course.

Galloping Hill is a solid option if you're in the area. They have a solid amount of space, and it's free to use the short game area. Always enjoyed using their area.

hyatt hills is also pretty good its three exits further south of galloping hill has driving range and chipping area and solid nine hole course

Konnect is indoor on 48th street. It uses trackman. love the place but short game is tough

I also visited Konnect indoor golf club at 48th and 5th Av, NYC a couple of weeks ago. I really liked their simulation tech and the fact that I can play at world's most famous courses.

They also have great choice of craft beer! :)

Ferry point by far best public practice facility near NYC. Last year I think it was $50 to use it all day. Call ahead if you care about hitting off grass at range as it is sometimes mats only.

Marine park also good, they have a bunker and a small green where u can hit up to about 40 yard shots (altho, there's usually too many people to attempt shots that far). They have short range, irons only. Also, good size putting green separate from short game area. And the greens are decent, prob best of the munis.

You can also go out late on one of city courses and set up shop at an empty hole. As long as u aren't digging trenches, doesn't hurt anything to hit a bunch of pitches and chips onto the green. I used to be in Brooklyn and would go to kissena late Sunday afternoon and practice short game on empty holes, bunkers or whatever. I've seen people doing this at Bethpage too.

Windwatch, kinda far out LIE, has full grass range with short game area.

Richter park, kinda far north of city has full range (mats only) and an ok short game area (no bunker).

Split rock has decent size practice green where most people are chipping/pitching and not putting. Turf isn't terrible around the green.

NYC golf courses are still ordered closed. Over 98% of courses in country are open, doesn't make sense. You can have people stand waiting in line and walk freely around stores like Target, home depot, BJ's, stop n shop, stand shoulder to shoulder at protests with thousands of other people, but you can't walk outside in the open air on a golf course.
