Terrible Scramble

I buddy of mind was telling me about a scramble he played in on the weekend. This guy's pretty mellow and I've never seen him worked up until he told me about the event.

 

It was a charity event. It was at an executive course that's only 3600 yards. First off it started 45 minutes late. When he asked the shop if it was a shot gun they didn't understand what he meant. They they put everyone out without telling them it was a scramble so half the field (non golfers) were playing their own ball.

 

Apparently everyone was there just to get bombed. To the point where people were falling out of carts and crashing. The course had to rent carts as they didn't have enough. The carts they brought in didn't have straps to hold the bags. They tried tying on their bags with bungee cords but the kept falling off.

 

When they got to one green, there were 8 carts of people all just drinking on the tee having a party that they had to wait for. He said it took 5.5 hours to play a 3600 yard course.

 

He went thinking it was a normal event not realizing it was just a drinking feast. He said he ate his burnt steak and left before the prizes were given away.

 

Hopefully they brought in a bunch of money for the charity and it seems like the people there had fun. It just wasn't was he was expecting. The guy who brought him was very apologetic.

Sounds like the “Git er done factor” was pretty high. Nothing like a bunch of Larry the Cable Guy fans with Bluetooth speakers and Busch light to bring out the best in a golf course.

I typically call them drunkfests or cheatfests----- I play in one a year and that is company related. The drunk part is not too bad but the cheating part is but it does not cost me to play. During the summer in this area there is one if not several different ones somewhere every weekend and since this is a retirement area there will be several during the week. We have several groups of old fart retirees thay may play 2 a week and those guys are the worse cheats
