Canada Golf Trip- need advice Montreal area?

Hello all, thanks in advance for reading and any advice you might have to offer.

A group of guys from our local course here in Maine have gone to Fredericton, NB for several years on a golf trip. It's usually 8 of us, though some years we've had 12. However, in the past few years we've been increasingly disappointed with the courses we've played there. Kingswood ended up being the only course we were happy with and you can only play the same course so many times before you get bored. Mactaquac used to be fun, but this past year it was in awful shape.

With that said, we've discussed making a change to our trip but the guys are afraid of change and want to make sure we're getting on nice courses. I've heard there are some great courses just outside of Montreal and I figured since it's about the same driving distance for us (4.5-5hours) we could perhaps try that instead.

Does anyone have any recommendations for 3 courses in relative proximity to each other that might be worth our trip? We're okay with one or two of them being just good solid courses in the 50-80 CAD range but usually we want something a bit more on the nice side for our final day- something around 100-125 CAD.

Anyway, I would appreciate any recommendations from those of you familiar with the area.

Thanks!

Glad you asked! ;)

Been sampling most of the courses around Montreal over the past frw years since I moved here.

For a golf trip: I would do either Tremblant or the Eastern Townships. Eastern Townships would be a very quick jaunt from Maine.

Both Royal Bromont and Chateau Bromont are excellent courses. Best conditions I played all year were at Royal Bromont. Only about 15 minutes away from each other. For a third, take your pick of the whole bunch of others around there.

Mont Tremblant has a bunch of great courses - quite a few in the top-100 of Canada. La Belle, La Bete, Diable, Le Maitre, Le Geant. My favourite that I’ve played there is Le Geant. Quite a bit pricier than the Eastern Townships. Most rounds $100-plus.

Around Montreal itself - CGIM Ireland is amazing, and my favourite public course is Le Falcon. Montreal isn’t great for a golf trip, however, as most of the courses are spread out in the suburbs, so to play two or three you’ll have to battle some awful construction/traffic. But it’s a fun city, so maybe you’re willing...

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much Alta. This is great info, I'll do some research and come up with a few more follow-up questions. Really appreciate it.

Alta guy hit a lot of the key points. The courses are very spread out here. Falcon and CGIM are a good 1hr away from each other. Quatre domains #2 is very nice too and is in Laval, again, might be far from where you're staying

Tremblant is nice but pricy, unless you are playing twilight hours Geant and diable will be 125-175$. La bete is a bit cheaper and is the best value. Le maitre is hard to get onto. Remember Tremblant is about 1hr from Montreal too without traffic, it's not next door or anything

Montreal is tough for a golf trip.
