Ping Zing2 putter shaft removal

Hi all, I am cleaning up some of my old ping putters since I've learned to soak them in coke on this site. Could anyone teach me how to remove the putter shaft on my ping zing2 BeCu putter. After I soaked the head, I found discoloration (dull and spotty) in the chrome right as the shaft mounts into the head for about 1 inch.. I don't know if was from the coke soaking. Also, if the head comes off easily, I'd love your thoughts on replacing the steel shaft with a graphite shaft.. thanks in advance, Don

Here is my two cents, PING putter shafts are noterious for being a PITA, they have a ball bearing which is pressed at the bottom. Some need to have it drilled out, I heated the shaft on my Anser2 for about 20 minutes, then when I turned around I heard a loud “POP”, it was the head shooting off the shaft and landing about 2 feet away, I did not k ow about the bearing until I read up after mi incident.

I did epoxy a broken driver epoxy shaft to a Bronze My Day and it felt heavier, which I liked, felt like it was a 340-350 head.

Thanks so much !!!! Will it fit if my hosel tip is .370 ? Would .012 make any difference? Would you happen to know if this shaft would fit a Acushnet Bullseye putter too?

> Thanks mmowen01 ! I couldn't heat it hot enough with my heat gun. So I ended up cutting it about 1.5 inches up, then borrowed my sons propane tourch and then it came off... Now to figure out what size shaft I need..

First time I tried removing an over hosel putter shaft, I'm ashamed to admit that I heated the putter head at the hosel like you would an iron head when trying to remove the shaft. It wouldn't budge with lots of heat. Then the light bulb went off and I realized I had to heat the putter shaft where it mates over the hidden part of the hosel since that's obviously where the epoxy is. D'oh! Twisted right off after 10 or 15 sec of heat.

Thank you for making me feel better. But I didn't research the availability of a .382 id flared shaft before destroying the old one!! They don't make them any more! Good thing I found one at Dicks Sporting goods.. Thanks for your comments..

Thanks again, I found a .382 flare tip and it fits to about 1/8 inch from being flush. I should be able to hammer it down for a tighter fit or sand down the stud in the Zing2 head right?

  • 4 years later...

I am trying to put a new flare tip shaft on a Becu Zing 2 putter. Says "patented".

I took it to pga superstore and they told me it had a ball bearing in it? They have awful customer service generally so assuming they were wrong. Not sure how a ball bearing could help secure the head on a flare tip.

Anyways I have blowtorched the heck out of the thing and it wont budge. Also tried heating higher on the shaft.

I poured some wd-40 down the shaft and am letting it soak.

If this doesnt work any ideas? I can cut the shaft if need be.

thanks
