Interesting thread. For those that brought up points about conversation, what would you say are the topics you most like talking about on the golf course or make for the best conversations with random strangers?

Like:

1. Good pace of play - be smart with carts, limit practice swings and putt reading, and play ready golf

2. Great conversation - I'm OK with 18 holes of silence, but be reasonably sociable if you insist on a conversation; just beware of #3 below

3. Good pace of play - see #1

 

Dislike (aside from opposite of above):

1. Getting overtly angry about their bad play - manage your expectations and have fun...or at lease keep it to yourself

2. Discussing or explaining their golf game or swing - treat it like your fantasy football team...it's all-important to you but no one else cares

3. Giving me swing tips or other advice - I'll NEVER ask for on-course help and will ask you to stop if you offer any

Likes...

1. Skilled golfers. Win or lose, I enjoy a competitive round.

2. Pace of play. Keep it moving at a decent pace and I'm happy.

3. Don't lie or cheat. I'm in the camp that thinks golf is a metaphor for life. I will judge your character!

Dislikes...

1. Talking too much. I'm a friendly person, but I'm a very quiet introvert. A little chatting is okay, but please don't comment after every shot. Don't be that guy.

2. Loud music on the course. Its very selfish.

3. Quitters. If it's hot or cold or windy or rainy pimp up . It's very healthy to leave your comfort zone for awhile. Life is going to throw much worse things at you then some bad weather during your round!

3.) Competitive spirit (optional but nice!)

Bad Traits:

1.) Smoking

2.) Giving swing/golf advice

3.) Not shutting up about how you got a new shaft and your swing weight is off ?

Like

1. Helps playing partners look for a lost ball - always comes across as genuine courtesy

2. Keeps 2nd ball in pocket in case they need it - no need to walk back to the cart

3. Willing to check in with starter a few minutes before the tee time

Dislike

1. Finishes telling joke. Hilarious, but I'm trying to tee off here.

2. Phones. Quickly checking texts is fine. Don't make me wait, ever, even for 5 seconds, because you're checking in with the wife

3. "go ahead and hit, you're not going to reach them"
