Koepka Down 24 Lbs

Holy Moses

Recommended Posts

The guys on “Live from the Masters” all said it was for the ESPN Body shoot. Brandel called it the most reckless decision for an athlete in his prime he’s seen. Might be an overreach, but it was a dumb decision! Brooks wants attention, but if your golf game falters, no one will care how good you look naked.

I really hate to say this, but I agree with Brandel. His agent and personal trainer (if he has one) should be fired for supporting or encouraging him to do this in the manner he did.

I could not believe when I heard that the reason he lost the weight was to be in the Body Issue of ESPN the Magazine. Dude threw his game away after winning 3 of 6 majors to be in a magazine - showing off a body that he never had when winning those majors and won't have after the photo shoot? Completely reckless and his manager should be fired.

I would say doing it at all. If you're his manager, don't you say "Dude, you just won 2 of 3 majors and 3 of the last 6 you played - you want to lose weight to be in a magazine photo shoot??? how about just focusing on winning the next major?"

I still have not heard it confirmed that it was for the body shoot , and he said he had bloodwork done so ...

Why hasn’t Brooks officially said what the reason for the weight loss is yet? If he just wants media attention, I guess he could drag this out. The whole thing is weird.

Good reasoning. She's a little on the emaciated, anorexic side.

"On Tuesday, Koepka acknowledged a poor diet in attempt to lose weight may have contributed to an illness at last month’s Players Championship. After some blood tests, Koepka called the issues “quick fixes” and said he is getting his energy back after several weeks off."

So it sounds like he tried to lose a ton of weight with a "poor diet" that probably just meant eating way less - then it caused some health problems. The blood work told him he was damaging his body with the crash diet, and he started eating normally again. At least that is what I gathered from this. I really like Brooks - he is one of my favorite players on Tour, but this is a tough look.

You can lose weight in a slow controlled fashion that minimizes muscle loss but any quick fix diets like Koepka was on will obliterate muscle first, thus the term "skinny fat". Additionally the lose of mass had to change his body dimensions sufficiently enough to impact the feel of his swing. I usually can't stand Brandel, but I've never heard him push for crash diets or anything severe like Koepka did.

I'm sure she'd have liked him to drop a few pounds and most girls would like the bragging rights of having their man on the cover of a major sports magazine dedicated to fitness.

Well...which is it then? Lifting weights cost Tiger many majors.

Brooks loses weight, costs him many majors.

Brandel's opinion is as fickle as the direction the wind blows, he's just there to say stupid s*** and rile people up.

Brooks !!! What could you be thinking dude? Vanity project? Please the social media girlfriend?

How about we focus on winning 3 more majors or the career grand slam ..... and then you can run around in Masters' green thongs or whatever turns your crank .. or your gf's

Career first buddy. You don't seem like the type to rest on their laurels after a grind to get to your current position in the golf world

Regardless of the reason for the weight loss, I feel like there's adequate data to judge Koepka negatively based on the fact that he won't answer questions with straight simple answers. What a weird generational thing; where all sorts of photographs and personal information is shared online through social media, but substantive questions about performance in one's profession, from reporters whose lives are devoted to that beat, can't be answered.

I think that Brandel is generally against making big changes after success. Brooks was a bigger guy, not huge like many think, but stocky and for his frame, heavier. He tried, for whatever reason to lose a bunch of weight quickly. Tiger was skinny and bulked up. Brandel is a lot of things but this topic he is pretty consistent. If you are having success, don't change anything.

I think it’s hysterical. The level of stupidity and vanity involved here is off the charts.

He loses substantial weight just to look cut for a magazine shoot that’s is supposed to celebrate athletes in their “natural” athletic condition. Wouldn’t it make more sense to shoot him at his normal “playing weight”?
