Cobra King CB/MB old vs new. Anyone?

SvenS3

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I want to order some new Cobra Irons and looking for the King Forged CB/MB Combo Set.

Did anyone of you tested them Head to Head? Is there a noticeable difference with the tungsten at the bottom in the new ones?

Can't hit them side by side. Only hit the new ones.

Thanks

I'm from Germany, so thanks but I will buy my clubs here in Europe.

Did you notice any difference in ballflight or forgiveness because of the tungsten in the toe?

I've not hit them, so I'll just comment on the physics properties...

The vertical CG of the 19 MB is essentially the same as that of the earlier version from 2016. Its about 0.9mm/0.037" farther from the hosel. The CG of the 19 CB is about a quarter millimeter farther from the hosel and about the same amount higher.

The MOI of the 19 MB and CB is marginally higher than that of the 16 MB and CB, though a bit of that is due to the measured clubheads being a couple grams heavier. This MOI difference isn't enough to mean anything IMHO; I don't think many are going to be able to tell the difference between 2000 and 2100 MOI, LOL.

Essentially the same. {shrug}

I can't imagine there is really that much of a difference. I decided to custom order the previous model mb's just before the new ones were released. I got mine with the AMT Tour White shafts in the black finish and love the setup. I came from the Mizuno MP15 and am happy with the switch. It's your money so if you think you need the new ones then go for it, but if you want to save a few bucks i'd suggest going the route I did and get the previous model. Good luck you can't go wrong with either choice.

That sounds great. I tested the new ones today again. And the only thing that were not optimal for my eye is the higher launch. If the old ones fly lower (technical wise in theory) it would be perfect.

What you mean with they felt slightly different? New ones softer/harder?

I loved the fell of the amp cell pros.

Never hit the older version but I did hit the new ones extensively outdoors off grass. Were I remotely in the market for new irons they would be in my bag. They look great even though I'm not a big fan of the black. Feel as good as any forged iron I've ever hit. Very controllable and much easier to hit that a club of that size ought to be. A+ in my book.

I haven't hit the new ones but I have the old ones. As @juststeve said, they're surprisingly easy to hit for their size. I think the tungsten in the toe helps a lot. As for flight, I have the factory C-Taper stiff and the flight is medium-high for me, though I'm a high ball hitter. These are great clubs. You can't go wrong with them.

Yeah I loved the amp cell pro and the fly z pro and had no problem with the missing tungsten in the amp cell pro. The fly z pro has the tungsten and I didn't notice any difference.

Thats why I ask If you can feel a difference in the new one with the 2 tungsten weights?

By the way, how is the CB playing? I´m still not sure if I will go full MB from 5-Gap or 5/6 in the CB and 7-Gap in the MB Head.

Thanks for your help Guys

Yes, down at Adress both years are identical. I'm only interested in the performance difference because off the added tungsten in the bottom.

I have the old (16) version full cb's (4-gw) and they are amazing. Best irons and I've ever hit. Got them when they first came out and the black finish still looks fantastic! All my buddies tell me I'm an idiot if I even think about getting rid of these. I guess that says something.

Im building this exact set right now. Can’t wait to give them a try. What are your thoughts on the AMT shafts? I play 1150GH Nippon currently.

I think this is really the only difference, the added tungsten to the club. They started with no tungsten, then added some to the toe. Then added more in the sole in the center of the face. That should make them launch higher and be more forgiving. But we are talking about a rather small blade, so individual results may vary.

The tungsten makes a huge difference. Rickie wanted to move the center of gravity off the heel and up to the center of the clubface. It is absolutely noticeable and I’ve hit both years. The 19 CB’s are the Lowest offset best pure forged CB with tech on the market right now in my opinion. You want lower launch? The lofts aren’t jacked so simply knock one or two degrees off each iron, simple. They feel and sound so pure too, amazing.

I love the setup they look absolutely incredible. I like the shaft a lot to be honest, I've always played DG S300 and had problems with ballooning. I tried these AMT's because they are supposed to be lower launching. They help tremendously as i'm a high ball hitter but it's been awfully windy here in Iowa but they keep performing great. They just do exactly what I want them to do and it's hard to beat that.

I am also playing the AMT's. I do like them, but I tend to hook the long irons. I think it has to do with being lighter.

What about these ....are they 2016 and don’t have tungsten in sole of long irons? Don’t remember that finish being promoted. Great price though.

Those ones don't have the tungsten plugs in the soles, just the ones in the toes. The 2016 version came in both black and satin chrome.

Cobras DBM is the best black finish on the market. It’s extremely durable and looks deep and gorgeous. If you look really close it’s almost a super dark charcoal grey.

You say it is a very noticeable difference. Could you tell me what exactly? Do you have Trackman numbers or only guessing on Flight on the Range?

I'm very interested in that.
