Places to stay Scottsdale area September

We have 4 guys taking our first trip to Arizona for our yearly golf trip. Typically we do east coast but landed on Scottsdale this year. We are looking to book through a place like Golfpac or Golf zoo because it seems like the pricing through them keeps the cost down. If you have another suggestion like booking through another company or booking on our own with golf and Lodging separate please advise.

Has anyone stayed at the Hyatt house or Holiday inn suites? We were thinking 2 of the 2 bedroom condo/suites at either of those locations.

As far as lineup for golf:

GrayHawk

TPC Stadium(been warned not worth it but its a must play for rest of group)

WE KO PA

Troon North Pinnacle.

That's a great lineup of courses for sure. I was just there last week on a solo trip. Played Troon Pinnacle and it was incredible. Since it was just me I stayed at the Cambria Suites hotel in Desert Ridge. Was close enough to everything I needed. Brand new hotel that just opened a few months ago, rooms are spacious with HUGE TV's---no GolfChannel...so just beware of that if it's important. But a very laid back bar with friendly servers. Breakfast was good but the dinner menu was limited. But it's right across the street from Desert Ridge complex that has just about any type restaurant you'd like. The Keg (upscale steakhouse) was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. But many other cool places around, Twin Peaks in Scottsdale is a short drive, if the guys are up for that

If you're talking about the Hyatt House in Old Town then you'll be a long way from any course you're playing. You'll also want to check the overseeding schedule as some of those places might closed in September if you're coming near the end of the month. First of the month won't be an issue unless they also have a planned maintenance issue as well, e.g. Sunridge closed 8/1-10/1 last year because they were doing some additional maintenance.

You'll see this advice over and over here but it is worth repeating. There's no reason whatsoever to use a booking company to book these rounds.

> Great point. I am not sure how far in advance we can make tee times. Looks like from HH Old town its about 20 or so miles from most of the courses. Plus i cant seem to find greens fees for the courses that time of year.

I recommend just setting up your lodging and worry about courses/booking/tee times at a much later date. There will be a published spreadsheet of overseed dates and course closures on the Southwest forum as we get much closer. You can use that as a guide and book times accordingly. We still aren't too busy in September from a tourist season/snowbird influx, so you should be fine.

You could also google the 2018 schedule which will give you a rough idea at least. Definitely avoid a booking service though.

If you want to be near a bunch of bars/restaurants and don't care as much about a bit of a drive for golf, book a hotel somewhere near old town. If you want to be closer to golf but still have some good options for food, stay closer to Scottsdale Rd and the 101. If you want to be central to other areas and don't mind a bit of a hike to the golf, stay downtown Phoenix.

September is awesome golf....with a few cautions. It will still be hot for most out of towners. Afternoons will regularly be over 100. Most locals find that to be a pretty comfortable golf temperature. Often courses will be cutting back on watering and thinning out the shaggy bermuda (courses can be petty ugly this time of year). I much prefer the ugly firm course to the mushy green course. If you come in with the expectation that in most cases you are going to catch the end of non peak season, I think you will be ok. As pointed out above just check on the overseed dates and you should be fine. Under no circumstances would I use a booking service here. That time of year you should be able to find tee times.

Come in early September to avoid overseed and still have pretty good conditions. My vote on lodging is to use AIRBNB or one of those home rental sites cost average is way better than a hotel plus. For the most part unless you are travelling with 3+ 4somes the golf booking companies are a waste of time/money.

Here is a good Airbnb search that is centrally locatated to all the courses you mentioned (except Wekopa) but that is a 20-30 min drive from here.

Check out Gainey Suites Hotel. It is in a great location and they have 2 bed condo style suites that are ideal for a golf trip. Breakfast is included as well. Decent pool and hot tub too for after the rounds before dinners.

This is a good idea. I got married at Gainey Ranch and we used the Gainey Suites Hotel for our guests. They had a good breakfast, and very nice rooms.
