Greenskeeper.org says aeration is scheduled 4/23-4/24, leaving only 5 days of recovery before we play. I'm assuming the worst and don't think the greens will be in decent condition. Looking for advice as to whether we should still play or look elsewhere, perhaps Bayonet/Black Horse. I think max budget for the round would be $175-$200 range. Thanks!

I really like staying at Quail and I would suggest getting what they call a cottage room which doesn't have anyone above you. I would also ask for a room away from Carmel Valley Road facing the 14th fairway. There is also a really nice 9 hole putting green between some of the buildings and it's not easy. Every time that I've played Quail the course has been in excellent condition. Edgar's restaurant at the clubhouse has good food. There's also a restaurant on the corner of Carmel Valley road and Quail called the Wagon Wheel that has good inexpensive breakfast.

Since you're staying in the Valley, you might want to look into Carmel Valley Ranch Golf Course. If you're an NCGA member there's a special rate of I think $115 including cart and range balls.

Thank you for the info

I did book the Premier King, which says its single story cottage. Thanks for the advice!

Can you even get a tee time for less than $200?

I'm headed there in October and I haven't see anything close to $160.

I don't think so. Used to be $140 not long ago on GN.

I think if you wait closer to the date you are going the rates will drop. When I went last year I booked months in advance. Did not want to risk missing Pasa so just paid the higher rate.

I hate to say it but I have to agree. We played it the Friday of this years US Open so I am sure we paid more just for that reason alone.... $350 for the round. I thought the course was nice, fun, but would never pay that much to play it again. I realize it comes with history but I left feeling like I just bought a car... super psyched going in, but feeling a little dirty and taken advantage of when I left.

Nix,

Pasatiempo is a great course. I love the fact that it's semi-private and allows outside rounds. That being said things are getting out of hand everywhere. To play courses with good architecture it costs big bucks nowadays. I know the Bay Area has a lot of money so more power to them if they can command such prices. In England you can be a member of an amazing club for a little over $1,000 / year. Compare that to Pasa where that's three rounds. It's a pity that I cannot play courses like Pasa with middle class friends who are interested in golf course architecture. Will everything get corrected in a recession? Time will tell.

If you are a single, sometimes, it appears that the rates drop a bit a couple of days out if you can play Mon-Thur.

My wife and I played it last Friday morning. Coming from central Alberta, we pre-booked and paid full fare to guarantee a time. It is worth it once. I have played many courses on The Open rota, all of the public US Open courses, and Pasatiempo ranks in my top three of courses played. The greens and the bunkering around the greens are amazing (if not diabolical!). I would have survived the walk, but my wife says she would have killed me had she survived the walk. We took a cart which made it much more enjoyable for her, and by extension, much more enjoyable for me!

Last time I walked Pasa was after what me and my buddy played the equivalent of 54 holes at a local muni (Delaveaga). I almost died that die lol.

For those trying to get the $165 rate you start looking around 30 days out and check frequently. That's usually Mon-Thurs around mid-day usually. Weekends can sometimes be had for $195. This rate does not include cart. If you have time, check out Delaveaga. I think we payed $50 each for primetime on a weekend if I remember correctly. It's not Pasa or Pebble, etc., but it's a good fun course. Staff is super friendly.

I’d play there every day and never get tired. The first tee shot staring into the monterey bay is just plain awesome.

was a member here for almost 10 years. you won't find a harder 6500 yards anywhere. i still feel they play the greens way too fast for the undulation. given they stimped at 5-6 when the course was designed, playing them at 11-12 is crazy. for the player that plays once a year or so this is fun. play it a couple times a week and it gets old real quick.

For those coming from out of state the greens fee at Pasa probably seems very steep, but for that caliber of golf course in the Bay Area it's actually a VERY fair deal imo. Half Moon Bay is gorgeous at $150 but isn't even in the same league, Poppy Hills for $250, even the beloved Harding Park muni is running close to $200 now.

Looking at those pics above, I clearly just played it on a bad day... it was overcast and a little foggy, couldn't see the bay from the first tee from what I remember... it looks much better with the sun out. Paying $350 on US Open weekend was still a bit steep though... If the normal rates are better, then I could see playing it again.
