Is the M5 / M6 an upgrade over a M2?? Is it worth it?

I've played a 2nd gen M2 with a tour ad ad 6 since day one (2016?)

I loved the driver but im itching for a change. Hit both the M5 and M6 with stock shafts. I liked the M5 much better but only hit the M6 with the horribly light stock shaft.

Are either of these drivers upgrades over the M2? These or the Epic Flash Sub Zero which was also amazing. I did demo a TS2 - the looks and feel were great but it was a few yards behind my M2.

I played the 2016 M2 for 3 years and I think the M5 is an upgrade. Lower spinning for sure but I also find it more forgiving. For the reasons above I’m really happy with the switch.

I am currently testing/gaming an M5 in 9 degree loft after gaming a tour issued 2016M2 8.5 head for the past 2 seasons.

 

In terms of overall distance on pure strikes, nothing is really going to dethrone the 2016M2 in my opinion. Set-up correctly, those original M2s are as long as anything, especially with a low spin shaft and a low-loft tour issued head.

 

Now the newer M5’s are supposed to have a significantly larger sweet-spot than the original M-series and of course employ the twist-face you hear so much about. Do these add up to more forgiveness? I think so, but it’s not game-changing. I have not had as many “off the planet” misses with the M5 and really poor strikes seem to get out there more than expected.

 

The M5’s definitely look cooler in my opinion. And that “carbon fiber-y” crunch noise is even more pronounced and duller with the M5 than on the original M2.

 

What really sets it apart though is the adjustability of the M5. The changes in weight position have a dramatic effect on spin and ball flight, more so than any other adjustable driver I’ve ever gamed. You can turn it into a head capable of lower spin than nearly anything out there, or make it as forgiving as the M6. As I continue to dial this driver in from a settings-standpoint, that may be the one feature than really separates it from the M2 and finally dethrones it.

I have the M2, M3, M5, and M6. M5 crushed all of them. Selling the others and not looking back. I have more confidence in the M5 than I've ever had and I am normally sporadic at best with driver off the tee, always the weakest part of my game. Used the same Atmos Black TS 6x in all 4 heads, M5 is significantly longer, more forgiving, and more consistent that the others. It's unreal...

I didn’t upgrade from M3 Tour to M5 or M6. The new versions didn’t work for me but the Epic Flash SZ worked. So I changed to that this year. Lower spin and slightly better ball speed.

Yes it's an upgrade, but no it's not worth the price. I do love the look of the M5/M6 compared to previous versions so that's what made me buy the new one (previously had the M1 2016).

For me personally I noticed a difference from the 2016 M2 to the M5. If I had to rank them I would say that the M5/6 are at the top with the 2016 M2 being above the 2017 and M3/4 models. That was just my experience giving them all a fair try.

I’d argue from a distance standpoint on good strikes probably not worth it if you hit yours well. I do think the new equipment will help you get into a different launch and spin window that could help distance. I do think all the newer equipment will help with off center strikes though, and what I have found, regardless of manufacturer is that toe strikes seem to be much more forgiving compared to prior gen equipment

yes. I hated the M3 and M4 my M2 killed them both. But the M5 is another monster all together.

Stop all the “yes, it’s worth the upgrade”. I’ve been hitting the best drives of my life the last 3 month with my M2. Been playing the 2016 M2 for 1.5 years and it just keeps getting better. Especially after I replaced the OEM weight with a 12 gram weight. Just amazing.

Because we get used to how good it is, and then we try something else just in case it might be a bit better, even if it's unlikely. Then when you slump you remember how well you hit your old club lol. I refuse to go through this with my M2

Been playing the M2 2016 for 2.5 years and recently put a different shaft in versus the stock Fuji. I’m not sure there’s anything better. I could probably convince myself I’m leaving a few yards on the table if I went and tried all of the new stuff...but I’m going to resist as long as possible.

Loved my M2s. Had a number of heads, but the last one cracked and my replacements never felt the same. I moved on to the M6 and am pleased at this point into the testing process. Distance seems good, but still working on dispersion. Is it better, yes and no. Looks great, just need to get more work in it. I may try the new Ventus in it. I have a fitting scheduled for next week.

I actually just bought a 2016 M2. Feels awesome, spins low for me and driving the ball longer than I have in years. I think it is a good fit. If the M5-6 is better than the M2 it must be awesome!!!

Again, nothing is really going to be "longer" than an optimized M2. It's the GOAT for a reason.

 

Limiting the off-the-planet bad shots and hitting a few more fairways is what you can _hope_ for with an upgrade to the m5/m6.

I went from m1 to m3 to m5. I am glad I did because this m5 has kept me in so many fairways this year and I've only played about 10 rounds. Toe misses are down the right side. Center hits fly high and long.

Played w an M5 demo this weekend and it’s easily the most forgiving club I’ve ever hit. I put some really poor swings on that driver and the ball still traveled and close to dead center in the fairway.

To me, M5 is better than 2016 M2. Price hard to say.

2016 m2 beat the m6 for me. The m6 was a little hotter across the face but also spun more and the dispersion was worse.

 

Seems like a lot of the m2 users are opting for m5 though? May need to give that a go at some point .

I’m sticking with my M1 (2017 version). I like that it sits square. Hit the m5 several different occasions and can’t get past the way it flops open at address.

tour m2 2016 to M5. Feels much better and is more forgiving. I couldn't fathom spending $550 on a driver but it was worth it.
