Mizuno Europe K1-L0 Ultralight Bag

Muddler

Recommended Posts

Saw this on the Mizuno Europe site. 4-way top. Water-bottle pocket. Claims to only be 2.6lbs (1.2kg). This would make it lighter than the sun Mountain 2.5+ (2.9lbs), which it appears to be influenced by.

It may be fine, but one needs to watch the balance with thse ultra light bags - if you pack water and balls at the bottom, guess what? It's all bottom heavy and you've got to have a little pocket like SM has to hold up the bottom.

I suppose. I mean, golf clubs tend to have most of their weight in the head, so they tend to balance out.

I like that the bag has an external foot action. It would be nice to see this come to North America, but I think the walker’s market is too small.

I tend to agree. I found the 2.5+ to be an awesome bag, but when walking I never could find a good balance. Hard to describe just didn't feel 'right' on the shoulders (that was with an EZ Fit strap).

Ended up choosing a heavier bag that carries way more comfortably due to the better balance and much better straps (PING 4 Series).

Not sure about the US but this is coming to Canada,

For those asking about balance, I've had the chance to try it on and they have taken every step possible to eliminate the unbalanced feeling on the back by re-positioning the straps on the frame. I'm about a 50/50 walker to push cart guy and this seems like a real winner for the walkers out there.

Where's the water bottle pouch, not seeing it?

Looks like it’s behind the pocket on the side of the hip pad.

I saw then bag in store yesterday and yes the water bottle pouch is behind the top part of the pocket on the hip side. In your picture the blue piece on the red bag behind the zip. The bag seems well made and is very light when I picked it up, I have a 2018 Titleist 4up and it’s similar size and I would say the Mizuno bag feels even lighter. It looks like it would get a full set in ok, the 4 up does although it works nice with 10 to 12 clubs.

In terms of balance I had the 2016 4up model and agree then bag felt a bit base heavy when carrying plus the padding on the straps was thin and not the most comfortable. The 2018 4up the straps slide and this gives a far better balance point for this lightweight bag and makes it far more comfortable over a round to carry.

I have found on these ultra light weight bags once you have a water bottle As the material is thin and tight to the frame it makes the pocket next to it unusable.

"I suppose"

No - I'm talking from a couple of years of experience.

The heads don't make up for a bottom heavy bag - a liter of water, 9 balls, rangefinder - don't carry more than 16 oz of water or a snack/fruit and it helps. But I'm self sufficient and carry my own liter of water, fruit, snack, etc. It's 4 hr round and takes a physical and mental toll. Of course, it's all about the design of the bag and straps - some straps are better than others - on my 2.5+, I'm ordering new straps. Just something you should test before a purchase.

I like my 2.5+. At first I thought the X-straps were a bit unstable, but after adjusting them a bit, I find them very comfortable. I adjust them a bit higher than the EZ-fit on my H2No.

I only carry for early morning rounds where I’ll be moving fast, so only take 600ml of water and 4-6 balls, depending on how confident I feel.

For regular rounds, I just use a push-cart. For me, carrying is a way to save time (walking straight off the tee-boxes and straight into the green complexes) and I can’t save time when the course is full.

I snagged one on the bay recently for a good deal. While I have not yet walked a round with it, I like it. Here are my initial thoughts.

Very light. Previous carry was a SM 3.5. This is significantly lighter. In the picture below, it pretty loaded up - thirteen clubs, a bunch of balls, rangefinder etc and it's light.

The material is super lightweight and thin. Makes sense, but it seems far from being remotely water-resistant and we will see how it holds up over time. If you strap it to a cart, I'd imagine it will wear quickly in the strap areas.

Shoulder straps - they're really light and padded. Again, look promising but haven't walked 18 yet.

Dividers - I prefer less (4, 5, or 6 way over 14 slots). It says full dividers, but it was a little difficult getting clubs into the slots flush. There seemed to be a bit of tangle...with 13 clubs. While it still works, it would probably be better suited for a day when you carry less than a full set.

Someone asked if this is SM 2.5 killer. I don't know. IMO, SM has always been my go-to for bags. I don't own a 2.5 but they seem very well made. Time will tell with the K1 LO. But if you can find one cheap, I'd say go for it.

Pockets - Sufficient. If you find yourself needing more pockets for storage, you just need a bigger bag.

Great review. You think 14 clubs with mid sized grips would cause a lot of grip jamming?

I have the SM 2.5+ and it’s a great bag with lots of space for clubs/grips, but having just ordered the MP20 I’m considering this bag

I think you'll be fine. I walked with 13 clubs this weekend and it was great. Super light, no real club tangle. Sure sometimes the clubs won't sit it perfectly flush at first but once you start walking they seem to fall into place. The only slot that is a little difficult is the bottom one, there's something in the base of it for the leg "kickstand" that can make it a little difficult to ram a wedge back in. That's really the only semi-negative thing I can think of.

I used it for the rest of the season and it’s very light and a great carry bag. That said it gave me issues with club tangle. I looked down the bag and it turns out the full dividers aren’t true full dividers. So a full bag of 14 clubs will cause problems. I’ll probably go back to my Sun Mountain 3.5 if I carry a full set in the future and use this for a range or Sunday bag. Outside of the tangle though it’s been great.

Really? Not full length dividers? Dang. I swore they looked it when I peered in a white/blue staff colorway.
