Bandon in May

I've searched the site and I think every month is covered but May. Average monthly rainfall doesn't seem bad at around 3.5" and highs in the 50s and low 60's. Those are obviously generic numbers so I'm wondering what everyone's first hand experiences were this time of year. Also, how were the course conditions? My brother, my Dad and myself are all making the trip out there on May 17th. Our itinerary is:

Day 1:

Bandon Dunes

Maybe play Shorty's and mess around the property

Day 2:

Pacific Dunes

Bandon Trails

Day 3:

Old MacDonald

Preserve

Day 4:

Pacific dunes

Bandon Dunes

We'll have caddies for every round but the Preserve. The three of us are cramming in a Lilly pond room. Can't wait!!!!

Course line up looks good. Remember that rainfall numbers can be deceiving because here in Oregon we don't get a ton of heavy rainfall but kind of live in a constant drizzle. So odds are you will get some moisture but not a full downpour.

On the 1st day don't feel too rushed. The next 3 days will take there toll.

Have fun, make sure you change socks if not shoes and socks between rounds. The majority of caddies there are good and that time of year they should all be back in town.

They aerate sometime during the early spring depending on weather conditions, I believe. When I went a couple April's ago, three courses were in great shape, but Trails greens were bad. Though that year they were dealing with some kind of fungus and invasion of other types of grass. I'd imagine by May, things should be solid, even with all the rain this season. Not really useful info, other than I think they'll be in good condition barring anything crazy.

Gonna be there just before you and praying for decent weather. Last time I went was March 2012 and it rained/blew to the point that there was less than 5 groups out on the course a couple of the rounds. Old Mac had standing water everywhere after about 3-4 inches of rain the days before our round. Gonna be prepared for the worst so maybe it will be sunshine and lollipops the whole time.

Yeesh, I can't imagine that's normal in May, at least I hope not...

Mostly I've gone in December, but one year a buddy & I played four days in June.

Bright sunshine, warm temperatures. The only thing was the wind was strong all four days. When we finished each day, our ears were ringing for a time & we were really sunburnt. (Seems to be less wind in the winter.)

As for rain, you shouldn't have much in May. If it does sprinkle a little, chances are it won't be for the entire round.

OP- I'll be there same days as you. Playing courses in slightly different order. Will be with a group of twelve guys. We may cross paths at some point. Any Kansas stuff on your bag?

I'm driving down from Seattle with a friend tomorrow and catching a flight back home on Sunday.

Weather actually looks pretty good all things considered. I think we picked some good days.

Have fun!

Just returned from Bandon. We got lucky with the weather - caddies said that there were not two consecutive days without heavy rain since October and we had practically none for four days.

Normal winds each day (10 mph in the morning and up to 20 in the afternoon). Playing OM on Friday afternoon in 20mph was an experience....

Courses were laying down a bit - we shot under net par as a group while being almost fall down drunk. trails and preserve greens were pretty rough in general and PD and BD still have the poa issue: they rolled pretty well in the morning and bumpy in the afternoon

I'm sure they tell everyone that. We were there April 26-30. 26th it rained in the morning before arriving, but at Sheep Ranch only saw a light mist for 5 minutes (of our 5 hours there). Thurs 27th it sprinkled for 5 minutes on Bandon Dunes, but was mostly overcast. Fri 28th no rain, sun all day. Sat 29th no rain. Sun 30th it rained lightly from 7-8:15. I was grateful to be teeing off in our 6th and last group at 8. Rained a ton before we got there.
