NEED ADVICE ON A BOMBER 2 HYBRID!!!!

Recommended Posts

Would love to get some advice on which 2 hybrid is a bomber. I play my 19 degree 3/4 hybrid very consistently and hit it 230ish and up to 250 in Summer when it is warm and not windy. I get great height on the club and it stops where it lands. I rarely pull my 3 wood out because even though it is a long club I am not as accurate with it. High risk....mostly low reward. I want a shorter club I can put a compact stroke on and put it out there 250 and get to some of these Par 5s when my driver swing gets spinny(and it does!) and I need to bomb it to green. I am almost certain a 2 hybrid can give me exactly what I need(20-30 yards extra) with very little risk and much more consistency. I am going to be brand agnostic on this purchase. I am willing to try anything. Any comments or advice would be helpful. Thanks!

100% the new Apex 2h. Heck the 3h went almost as far as my 3w due to how low the spin gets with still pretty good launch (off the tee). If you have the speed, I imagine the 2h being an absolute monster.

I'm thinking of getting one to be honest... and then turning my 3w into more of a 4w for trying to hit slightly higher softer shots. The Apex shoots bullets....Probably not going to be great off the turf unless you can account for 20 yards of roll to the green.

I game matching 20* and 17* hybrids. 20* gets me between 200-210 carry and the 17* gets 210-220 carry. The matching 3wood I keep in the garage at home given that it is only 10 yards longer and inconsistent.

Given that my driver carries 240-260, the 20-30 yard gap at that end of the bag has never been an issue.

Old ping Ansers are low spin monsters. Should be cheap too.

I was in a similar situation and recently took out the fw for the Callaway Rogue. It actually looks a bit more like a fw than the apex ( which I have in the 20 and played the 2 as well for a while) while still playing like a hybrid. It's more forgiving and gives me the yardage I want. Easy to get up and can be played out the rough. It's also about the hottest hybrid I've played and quite a bit longer than the apex was. It can also be bent flat, which can help with hybrids, since many hook them. Shaft is key.

You can find SLDR hybrids for cheap and they are low spin. Grab a 2h(17*) and open it up to 16* and you’ll have a bomber 2h that won’t go left

I have an SLDR hybrid that I play at 18.5* and it is a bomber. Pick up a 2hy and pop in the right shaft and you will be happy as a clam. Since they are older it is a cheap experiment.

Exactly how I play my sldr right now. It’s longer than any 5w I’ve tried

Yup, it's the longest club I carry besides driver. It hammers the ball. I'm playing mine with at Fujikura Fuel

I already play my Biocell at 19 and it appears that Rogue comes in 17 and isnt adjustable. Am I crazy to want a 16 degree since I am taking 3W out of bag? 2 degrees difference doesn't seem like enough imo.

If you can find it, the Adams 15* Super LS is a great club. Its basically a tight lies fairway wood weighted for a 42" shaft with a more compact head, and the thing is as hot as the rest of the Super LS lineup.

I play the 2017 m1 which is basically the same, has the sliding weight and everything. It's not a large head and to me plays like a very hot iron, you can hit down on it and it's good out of lots of lies as well as off the tee.

SLDR - oldie but a goodie and adjustable

Anser - also a fabulous club (still in play on tour)

Apex - both the new version and the '16 version are spectacular, performance wise and visually. Cally took some great aesthetic cues from the classic Adams hybrids of yesteryear to design these. And they sit just a tick open, as a rule.

But there is only one champ, if its a bomber above all else that you must have. It is not pretty. It does not have great feel. It does not have great sound. But it is the single longest club, loft for loft, that I think has ever been created.

Adams Super LS Hybrid.

And if you are an absolute monster, it is available in 15°, lolololol! (and yes, I have one, and no, I can't elevate it for beans off the turf into a par 5!)

I've had success with a Stage 2 Tour 2h, which I got because I liked the same model 3h pretty well.

That said, when I tested the Stage 2 Tour, I compared it to a TEE Ex9 Tour, and I have to say, the TEE looked very good. The only reason I went Stage 2 Tour was due to having a couple extra shafts for it. I've been looking at getting a TEE anyway, kind of wish I'd sucked it up and gotten it instead.

The WRX curse. LOL

Plenty of TEE options, with the CBX hybrid or Iron wood, the EXS, and you can even still get a CB Pro F2 new from them.

I gamed the M1 (as stated, very similar). Fantastic hybrid. One of my favorites I've ever played. I wouldn't call it a "bomber" though, I would liken it to a Titleist 818 series as more of a scoring hybrid (hit your distance). For a pure distance machine; Callaway Rogue or Apex 19 (depending on your skill and eye preference). Bombers.
