EPIC FLASH SUB ZERO DIAMOND HEADS???? (Pics added page 7)

My Tour Issue black diamond came in yesterday and it sure is good looking! Was able to take it out to the range for a bit last night, and even being an 8.5 true loft it still launches pretty well, actually got the loft turned down 1 degree while trying to get it dialed in. I was hitting into a head wind the entire time but I didn't see any drives that seemed to get up and be overly spinning. Going out this afternoon to play some so I can it on the course and with real golf balls, but so far very impressed. I love the look and setup of it at address, can't 100% comment on sound yet as I had headphones in listening to music yesterday but this head does have a little hotmelt in it, will get a better idea today on the sound. Got a Diamana DF 70X in it and the driver just wants to go straight and if anything fall just a touch right. Left has always been a big miss for me, but I didn't see any of those yesterday on the range.

> I know this is gonna come off a little harsh, but I think it is REALLY wrong of Callaway to release these triple diamond heads, and the "dot" Apex Pros, just months after people ordered, or bought, the retail Flash drivers or Apex Pro irons. This is the first time I have seen Callaway do something like this, and its bothersome to me. I would NOT have used up my shop cred and got the retail head, if I knew I would have this option, just a couple of months down the road. Its no big deal, I like the Flash head just fine, but would have liked to have known this was going to be released first. I would have stuck with my Rogue until I could try them both........

When you say “I like the flash head just fine” does that mean you’re playing the epic flash driver or epic flash SZ driver?

Flash SZ. I just wished I could have tried a 8.5 head triple diamond head, at neutral or turned down 1 degree. I find that I launch this driver pretty high. I love the feel and the forgiveness, but I don't find myself liking the ball flight. Trackman says it is good launch angle and spin. I don't recall the numbers, but it was around 13-14 degrees launch and about 2200 - 2300 RPM...I think. The Callaway Rep said the numbers were good, whatever they were. I simply don't remember. But, it looked and felt high to me, I guess. I don't know. Maybe it is just taking some getting used to.

What a beautiful driver - I love the appearance, muted face graphics, and position between the standard Epic Flash and the SZ. I just wish they made it in lefty...

Retail will look smaller, much shorter front to back. Face depth is debatable as they are very different shapes.

Not sure where you get the sound being more muted from. I have the triple diamond and had the std SZ right before it and they sound nearly identical to me. Actually, I would dare say the triple diamond is louder.

Hit triple diamond against TS3 with Tensei PO in both. Best balls we’re about 10 yards further for triple diamond. Also found the triple diamond to launch higher and spin less than ts3 and also the regular flash sub zero. Looking forward to doing some on course testing. Also gained 1.5-2 mph club speed with triple diamond.

> After reading thru the thread some more, I’m surprised that I didn’t notice or see the higher spin that people are talking about. I hit it with trackman outside and saw similar spins numbers and flatter flight with triple diamond vs regular Ef sub zero. Triple diamond destroyed my ts3.

I am seeing the same thing. Numbers are so similar you could call them the same. I guess that with a slightly heavier head weight and more fade bias that you should see more spin.

Also received mine today. Shape is...interesting. More triangular than I expected and not something I typically favor, but the slightly smaller profile is nice. Unfortunately I don’t have anything shafted up with a callaway adapter (if you have a mid launch 60g untipped X with a callaway adapter you want to move let me know!) so maybe this weekend. Interested to hear more impressions from some others.

Got my Epic Flash Triple Diamond TC serial last week and it replaced the EF SZ retail head. My retail SZ had the lighter weight on it and 6 grams of hotmelt sound was much better and feel as well. But the SZ retail to me was much less forgiving on slight mishits. The Triple diamond however sounds and feels great. I have to say looks great from the top and is really easy to hit. Also noticed the the retail SZ my misses were left with the Triple diamond that’s not an issue. Both heads were played with the Accra TZ5.

Triple diamond head is literally a completely different head. If you like the standard SZ then great, if you don't then try the triple D. Personally I found the standard SZ to launch way too high.

The triple diamond is not lower launching and lower spinning.

Triple Diamond is slightly higher spinning and fade bias.....depending on how you set it up.

These are available through any retailer. You just may not see many on the shelves as it is a relatively small market in comparison to the rest of their product lines.

This is not correct. There are 5 on the shelves at the local retailer. They are as readily available as the regular subzero head. It is not part of the customer department. The reasons you may not see many are 1. It is a head design for a very specific golf segment like the TS4 that is coming 2. Bad information like this that permeates down to even retailers that are big box high volume stores that are filled with people that don't really know.

Point being, if you want one, you can get one. You may just have to ask for it as the person at golf galaxy may not even know that it exists, or that is just a couple clicks away for an order.
