I made a putter, and now I can't stop making more

Part 1:

 

I could not believe how well it turned out! I'm absolutely thrilled with the results! I'm just waiting for the face insert to come in then paint and shafting.

 

 

Part 2:

 

After inspecting the body, I found that one was not as machined to spec as the other so that one will be the test mule. I'll be testing smoothing and stamping on that one before going to the "good" one. The face insert also came in. Had a wee bit of sanding/grinding to get it to fit into the holes but afterwards, it fit solidly. It was designed with just a little bit sticking out from the face of the body so I can sand it all down to be flat all the way across. The screws to hold it all together are still on order and so is the shaft. Still more to come!

 

Part 3:

 

Shafts, paint, screws, stamps, and sand paper are in house. Time for some love. After a few rounds of sanding and sanding and sanding, I am about 90% there. Still playing with the stamps on the other head but started to get the hang of it.

None taken was just curious. The naming behind those irons are a hilarious inside joke to me anyways the more AR1s the merrier. Putter looks good BTW...

No CNC programming needed. All CAD by me, CNC programming and milling by the machine shop.

No difference from the first pics at the moment. I don't have the screws yet. I'm getting some specialty screws from an industrial supplier and my local distributor doesn't have them in stock. Probably be here by the end of the week.

do you have plans to soften the lines? specifically topline, bumpers/shoulders? *subscribed*

 

that's one of the best looking insert putters i've seen in a long time. solid work man.

Thanks! The softening will happen by hand. I wanted them to do a vibe polish but they said it was "too big". (shrug) Probably just run some extra fine grit sand paper over all the edges and then run a dremel brush over all the surfaces. After just fondling (yes, that IS what I mean) it for however many days, a lot of the sharp edges have been smoothed a bit.

Designed weight, with screws, was somewhere around 353g +/-. I haven't weighed the actual one yet though so I'm not sure exactly what it came out at.

Thanks! Lots of extra fine grit paper was used to get the insert smooth and shiny.

I honestly don't know. I thought it may be laser etching too but it has some depth. It is probably just shallow milling though.

Did you have previous cad knowledge?

 

Here is my deal, I have a shop and I have, program, and run 2 cncs, a 5ax and a 3ax. However my machines are not for metal and too big and not worth messing with to try. So I am super comfortable in my cad/cam, but the 3D for it is not something we do a lot of and I sought out 3D cads that I know in industry. I may have severely overcomplicated this though, if you were able to make a file in that free software, anything I would make and send out would be nothing more. I feel like I know too much about my needed cad to be both dangerous but also a terrible study on new programs because it isn't my native software.

 

Did that software have a center balance point to maintain the sweetspot?

 

Weight estimation on volume?

 

Did you give whoever machined it an STL file?

 

Sorry for bombarding you, but your putter is the best one I have seen on here and made in the fashion it should be, cad and machine work subbed out. Really awesome man.
