Things to do while waiting for Bandon

There's only about 12 million rental cars available at PDX.

It's probably the one thing you don't need a reservation for next week.

Lol yeah, not a problem. Although I think prices have risen. I had $205 in my notes but now the best I found was $265 through Costco travel.

Just get one through turo.

Looked into Turo and it didn't seem any cheaper, and I couldn't get the normal insurance I'd get through my credit card. Maybe I'll check again.

Had to re-read this thread, as I'm about 2 1/2 weeks out.

I have the advantage of having to go to Austin for a conference between now and then, so I'll at least have some good bbq and tacos to distract me.

I will definitely be checking the course cams and weather forecasts, tho....

Stiles Switch and Blacks (on Guadalupe, not Barton Springs) would be my two picks for good eats without the long queues or hipsters other spots have - TBF I lived 2 miles from Franklins and never had it cause I'm not queuing for 2+hrs for lunch.

Lamberts downtown if you actually want to make a reservation and be in a more sophisticated sit down restaurant.

Enjoy!

I leave for my first trip to Bandon in 1 hopefully extremely short week! I've been checking extended weather forecast daily even though everyone in here suggested avoiding that, I can't help it. I previously purchased the yardage books for each of the courses and have been flipping through those every night. I'm very close to being completely checked out of work. I cannot wait for this trip.

I do like the work-checkout. Since we do ours Thanksgiving week, I typically start throwing pencils in the ceiling and staring out the window on the Friday before hand ;)

You're in for a cracking time - regardless of the weather - especially post DST it'll be way easier to get in 36 or otherwise muck about in something golf related.

Right there with you!! (I think we're going on the same dates from a previous post). The extended forecast looks pretty different site to site, I like accuweather the best. Prepping by hitting 50-60 balls a day and doing a nightly work-out/stretching routine. I'd be in pretty good shape if I always had a Bandon trip in front of me :). Also completely useless at work.

Fear not. Most of western Oregon is getting a real good soaking this weekend.

A week is an eternity in weather terms at Bandon.

Just entered the weather forecast obsession phase. Not sure how I am going to make it to next Friday. This is excruciating.

Always excruciating to wait. Every time.

Just had to re-read through the whole thread! Our 9th annual golf trip will be our first trip to Bandon. We leave tomorrow for Portland (Playing Manzanita and Pumpkin Ridge). Driving to Eugene Monday Night and then driving to Bandon Tuesday Morning (April 23rd). We will be in Bandon Wednesday-Sunday Mornings. Playing PD-OM Wednesday, BD-BT Thursday, PD-Friday, OM-BD Saturday. Have already been unproductive at work watching course cams and the weather.

I've got my second trip to Bandon in just under 6 months, so I'm naturally filling the time by getting on Sand Valley's waitlist (got on ~6 months ago) for lodging/golf post- 2020 Ryder Cup. Now starting to see what our options are if Sand Valley doesn't work out. Anyone else looking to couple the Ryder Cup with at couple laps at the Bandon of the Southwest?

Callaway Rogue 5w

Srixon ZX7 3-PW

Titleist SM9- 50*, 54*, 58*

The Southwest? I thought you guys were only supposed to be bad with geography OUTSIDE the US ;)

SV is good fun though, we were looking at entering their Heathland Cup event this year, but ended up not doing so.

Wow. Go me. When your whole life has been Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, anything west of Idaho is just a jumble.

Great thread!!!

I leave for Bandon (first time) in less than 4 weeks from Houston and can hardly wait.

  • I've started reading Dream Golf
  • Viewed the Envisage flyovers hundreds of times
  • Watched Erik Anders Lang's course vlogs dozens of times
  • Enjoyed watching/studying the US Am
  • Already blocked out what I intend on packing as far as clothes go
  • Oh and I view my tee times right before bed, that's normal right?

Just for good measure I'll share...

9/15 Preserve AM / Old Mac PM

9/16 Sheep AM / Trails PM

9/17 Pacific AM / Bandon PM

9/18 Supposed to make the drive back up to Portland, but may try to sneak in a final AM round

Wife and I are flying into PDX, staying in Portland the first night, then exploring the coast and eventually ending up in Eugene for a night, then getting up and heading down to Bandon.

That sounds amazing, but aggressive. Hope you're in good shape.

This thread is hilarious. I made wallet-sized cards for each course (map with routing on one side and scorecard on the other) and laminated them.
