How do the arms work after transition

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

my left shoulder get's really high before and at impact and I don't think the below is how the arms are suppose to look at impact.

Is my right arm suppose to unfold more at impact? Am I lacking arm action in the down swing?

Here is my swing:

Just trying to see what I'm thinking is correct.

Thanks in advance.

Well, left shoulder is part of it. Too high at top and never gets away from head. Need to work it down more in back swing and peel it away from head while keeping it low.

You know I used to watch a lot of baseball but don't much these days. But last night was watching and pitchers get lead shoulder high and it hit same point with trail throw shoulder. Golf is the opposite, Get lead low and trail hits same low thru rotation. OTT is natural instinct, going lead high also has an ingrained instinct. So there's probably more issues that a knowledgable Pro can point out but I can say this work on shoulder plane back and thru.

In what sense is his left shoulder too high at the top of backswing?

I will say I've never seen someone's right leg straighten so quickly in a backswing. No idea if that's really an issue here or not so I'll wait for the experts to opine.

The amount your right arm unfolds is dependent on a lot on body measurements. Looks like you need your rear/right shoulder to work more out and around your body. When it works as vertically as yours it forces your hands to do a lot to square the face and also to try and shallow the club. I'm guessing at some point you worked hard at swinging to right field to hit a draw?????

Also...unless i'm seeing things....your lower body turn is complete almost before you start your arms/shoulders in the backswing. That is going to make a mess out of your transition sequence. Your arms, hands, shoulders should start a little before your lower body as they have much longer to go.

High in relation to right. Off plane a bit not tragic but makes it harder to go low and keep low coming back. He can live with it but I'm seeing head welded to shoulder in transition and trail shoulder crashing. Have to address left side to allow right shoulder to do proper thing. Been there and at times still am.

Your left knee comes out early. It’s supposed to happen as a result of the hips rotating. Yours comes out actively and throws everything off the rest of the backswing.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

I never swung to right field but I did have to work hard on adding flexion hard to my wrist to stop the hook and produce a draw.

Thanks for the heads up on sequence, it really helped.

Thank you so much Monte, the above really helped free up my swing + bump, dump, turn (I only get to dump and the ball is gone) = Solid swing feel/ contact.
